Ok guys what are your thoughts on my ideas? if you agree with it we could start this sunday with announcing the topic (i think we agreed on the no-smoking law) and making a poll. Then the houses have a week to make teams of four members (i'm still not really sure about this...the debates seem rather popular so maybe we can make teams of 5 or 6 people, what do you think?)

Then we could be starting the debate in 1 and a half week, i'm looking forward to it!

Well if we get a complete roll call of everyone interested and the numbers support it then we could definately go with larger teams.

If we go with house teams how do we decide which teams play who and in what order? Should we do it along the same lines as the quidditch teams playing each other from the books?

i dunno if i read this right, but would you like to be the slythering moderator krum?...it would be right since it was your idea....but of course this is up to Paul!

Maybe there are other volunteers for slytherin....once we have the 4 moderators we should get together in the moderators forum (wow it sounds cool to say that 8) ) to make a detailed plan for the debates....

I guess the moderators have to pay a close attention to prevent overheated arguement from both parties and of course editing some errors and stuffs.

As for the line-up of each house team, I suggest house members will arrange a team of 5/6 (the no. still remains unknown until further notice) active people in their own common room. This debate team can be changed after a round of debate to allow more keen participants to take part.

However, the team cannot choose their stand. It will be more of a coin-toss to decide on the stands which two teams take. (this is to prevent everyone from choosing the same and often the percieved 'correct' stand. for eg. smoking law)

Then, again, the topic we choose to debate must be reasonable, like
Capital punishment (death sentence) should be abolished where it is possible to have different views than
Drugs should be banned kind of topic where it is almost impossible to disagree with.
