Rather than having raw facts at her disposal like Hermione (though, I think, she did correct Hermione at least once), I think Luna's smarts are of a more contemplative nature. She made a snarky remark to Hermione that Hermione didn't understand anything that wasn't shoved up under her nose (or something like that--if someone has the quote on hand, please post it!). Hermione seems well-read and has facts of all sorts at quick disposal, whereas Luna seems to have more exposure to various things in the magical world first-hand and seems to be more deliberating and introspective. Does that make sense? I hope it does and, of course, it's JMHO.
