Luna in Ravenclaw

Postby gecko » Saturday 28 June 2003 10:22:47pm

Does it strike you odd, that Luna's in Ravenclaw? Ravenclaws are supposed to be smart, and eager to learn, yet she didn't give the impression of being more intelligent than other students. Could she be intelligent in a different way? In what way remains to be seen of course ! : ) I hope we'll learn more about her in book 6 and/or 7.

Rather than having raw facts at her disposal like Hermione (though, I think, she did correct Hermione at least once), I think Luna's smarts are of a more contemplative nature. She made a snarky remark to Hermione that Hermione didn't understand anything that wasn't shoved up under her nose (or something like that--if someone has the quote on hand, please post it!). Hermione seems well-read and has facts of all sorts at quick disposal, whereas Luna seems to have more exposure to various things in the magical world first-hand and seems to be more deliberating and introspective. Does that make sense? I hope it does and, of course, it's JMHO. :)

Hrmm... Well, we actually dont' konw anything about Luna's class results, do we? Maybe she is really bright, but likes to hide it?? Or that people just don't notice, because she has all these strange ideas???

If Lily was in Gryiffindor, wouldn't it be strange that both Head Boy and Head Girl would be from the same house. I don't think the other houses would like that..

Well, you do not necessarily need to be a genius to be in Ravenclaw. At least, not an ovious one. Look at that Michael Corner bloke

I think that a lot of the ideas and thoughts that Luna has seems really out there to a lot of the students because as far as they know everything she says is poppycock. But maybe not all of it is, so because of that, maybe she has a better command on the world around her than others. And maybe that's her intelligence, and only the sorting hat has noticed that so far.

You're right - i read somewher about book smart and life smart, or something like that.

Just because she doesn't know everything like Hermione doesn't mean she isn't intelligent. She could just be wise in her choices and the stuff she does.[/b]
