I liked the movie a lot. It was much darker and there was a tone to it that dictates that the next ones are going to be even darker.
I loved the beginning, with Harry getting really angry and I thought that his acting was so good. I finally got to see Harry that I saw in the books.

It’s a pity that the movie couldn’t be longer. The scene in the bus was too long, like wasting precious time, as well as couple of other scenes. Pity they didn’t include more about Harry’s father and his friends.

I’d love to see more of Weasley twins, but hopefully in the next one.
Lupin was cool, and Sirius didn’t disappoint me except that I hope they’ll clean his teeth for the next one (I didn’t care for the color of it :???: ).

Directing in this movie was truly superb. He felt the movie and understood what it was all about. I only didn’t care about the way DD looks—like old hippie.

If the movie would be longer then what it was - not many people, other than true fans, would go see it. U gotta understand that! I mean, I know a LOT of people who didnt go see LOR movie because it was 3 hours long. And u r talking about a children movie, u know?

highsorcerer wrote:Actually, one of the weakest aspects of the film is the amount of background information you would need to fully understand it.

That is how I felt when I was watching it ^^ I felt like unless u read the books u cant appreciate the movie.

The worst scene of the movie, as someone pointed out, was the reunion of Sirius and Lupin/ Harry realizing that Sirius is his friend. It was EXtremely Rushed. It was like "Ok, he tells u he didnt do it and now u guys r friends. Group hug!" My hasband didnt get it, he didnt read the books so he kept asking me "Erm, how come they r all so friendly now? I thought they were enemies"

I loved the beggining, unlike 2nd movie it was really cool. (2nd movie had such a fake beggining, may be due to Dan's acting I dont know.) I liked the ending - it was really original!

The actors improved, including Dan - he was pretty good in this movie (Xcept when he "cried" - erm... shouldnt he have tears on him or smth o_O). The best actors were actually the new actors - Loved them all!!! Dumbledore - really cool guy, Lupin, Sirius, Trelawney - they were all perfect!!!!!!

But the best thing of all was the amount of Magic in this movie!! Special effects rocked!!!!!!!!!!! And quit complaining about talking heads - they were fun addition to the movie. In fact all of the extras were!!!! I liked how Cuaron changed things around ^-^

(oh and i Absolutely loved new grounds - they were soooo much prettier!!!)

just saw the film... the graphics were amazing, the Dementors ruled, Sirius' animagus ruled more, buckbeak and Harry's first encounter with him ruled the most, and the TimeTurner episode ruled more than the most but i have to say that i am disappointed

as it is said before, there was a bit of abruptness but more importantly i really hate it when they change things without reason. i agree that it is impossible to show everything without trimming it, but making drastic changes is not the solution

Harry seeing Pettigrew walking the castle in the Maradeurs map was the height. was that the only way to show Pettigrew? and how much efforts would it take to explain about the map's makers??not a mention

the climax was soooooo abruptly done. lupin enters... hugs Sirius... Harry wants to kill Sirius... Peter is exposed... they walk out and in no time he is talking with Sirius as if they were childhood chums. there should have been MUCH more emotion there.

* realises that he is becoming critical and shuts up *
But i expected better

whatever you say...

In my opinion, that was a BIG marketing mistake on the part of the publishers of the books. As Harry grows and experiences more things, the books become less and less like children's books, but that's how they continue to be marketed. It's like, since P/SS was a book about an eleven-year-old, it should be marketed for eleven-year-olds... makes sense, except that they're still marketing the books of him being fifteen for eleven-year-olds...

PoA, and especially GoF, and OotP, if it becomes a movie, are not "children's movies"... but that's how they're marketed, and I know more children than adults are really wanting to see these movies in the theater, and it would be annoying to sit next to a four-year-old for a three-and-a-half hour movie...

I do wish they had trimmed down some of the "cool" extras and spent more time on the Shrieking Shack scene... I totally agree, it was like in a matter of minutes, with no real explanation (because you can't understand a lot of what Sirius/Lupin are saying), Harry and Sirius are good friends, and there's this weird twitchy guy coming from the rat.

Oh yeah, I forgot... I really REALLY liked the Time-turner scene (I had wondered how they'd do it, because I never really "got" it when I was reading it)... it was cool. :-)

This was a excellent movie but my favourite part has got to be the end credits. That was a just an amazing design. Great how they utilised the Marauder's Map: the foot steps walking around; map showing parts of hogwarts and hogsmeade; foots running away from the stink bomb shop; and how the camera pans on to a another map that overlaps the previous for a new set of credits; plus the line "Mischief managed......NOT!" was perfect to end the film.

Overall, I liked the movie, but I probably already had the placebo effect before I even saw it. Soooooo I'm already biased. I've seen it 7 times already!!

but y'know guyz i think harry potter 3,, has a very fast pace and i think they should make the movie 4 in 2 movies,, part a and b,, why?? because the movie 3,, is not so good because they accelerated it through climax and movie 4 is more times longer than d 3 ryt,, so i guess they should divide it in to 2,, umm maybe itz a little expensive but i think itz worth it ryt,,, :-)

love those made-up words...

anyway... I had heard where they are going to have GoF a little longer, similar in length to the first two movies (which were both longer than PoA), but because of the lack of success the Matrix movies had splitting up the final movie into two (which is basically what they did), and other movies that have tried to do that, they're going to keep it in one film. Plus, with all the little hints, etc, that you need to keep in mind from the beginning to end, none of the Harry Potter stories are really good examples of stories to be made into one book/two movies.

There is a new director for the fourth movie, Mike Newall (of Four Weddings and a Funeral), so there will be differences between the third and fourth movie, just as there were between the first two and the third.

Athena Appleton wrote:I liked the new sets. I never thought the original sets were believable in the least as a 1000-year-old castle.

I actually kinda liked that it was so grimy... It's supposed to be 1000 years old. I've lived in a house that was built in the late ninteenth century, and it didn't look as nice and clean and new as the Pre-PoA Hogwarts did.
Sacred Guardian wrote:and it IS supposed to be a thousand years old, remember, that was when the 4 started hogwarts, so what exactly is ya'lls complaint about that?
Marcus Baker wrote:about the set, I enjoyed it. A) It was something different. B) IT was kind of like how I imagined it to be like, so this is probally why I liked it

Now I am defiantly the minority here as shown but the reasons that I hated the new set are:
    1. I see no reason to make the castle look like it is falling apart. It’s magic after all and not a muggle structure.
    2. JKR actually said in an early interview (About the castle in the first film) That is exactly how she had always pictured Hogwarts. That being said I do not think that any director should mess with it!
    3. Hogwarts is described (In the books) as being the oldest and most prestigious schools of Magic in Great Brittan. Should a school with that sort of reputation be falling apart? Would Lucius Malfoy want his precious little brat to go to a run down old castle for his education? Would he be on the Board of Governors of such a place?

I saw it tonight. As I went into the cinema with rather low expectations, I was actually quite pleased at the end. I loved the Hippogriff scenes, they are just stunning, also I thought Radcliffe got a good deal better than in the first films. Of course, loads of important stuff is missing, but I think they did pretty well. :)

Yeah... we're not ever going to agree on this...

I saw the movie again last night, with Todd, and I looked for what you're talking about... and although it is a much more grungy look, the castle doesn't look like some ruins or anything... in fact, I thought it was beautiful, only in a 1000-year-old kind of way, not a tried-to-make-it-look-1000-years-old-but-still-gleaming way.

In the books, it's an old castle. Old castles have that look.

But I still don't think it looked decrepit or anything like that...

i thought the movie was great. i thought it was alot like the book. i think they should have made things shown diffrently. like some scenes were rearranged and that made those scenes look bad and alot of people might think that that is how it happened in the book. i had to reread the book myself because i thought some scenes were confusing. i thought the Quidditch scene where Harry's nimbus was destoryed was really bad. it really didnt focus on what i thought the book was trying to say. i like the movie cause there was more humor. u could really tell that there was a diffrent director

I agree. There's definitely a lot of humour in the 3rd movie than the previous two added together.

Ron's dream about spiders wanting him to tap dance
Draco's fainting action after Buckbeak slashed him and his comment about Hagrid and his chicken

 It's really funny

I watched the movie twice!   And I really love! Ron, Harry and Draco don't look like 13 year old boys - but o.k. I didn't really expect too much cause the first two were childish and, well, I didn't like them. So I got even more than I expected.
The chicken thing was hillarious

only one thing confused me: Dmentors fly??? Really fly??? Shouldn't they just float??? And they flid like a bloody aeroplane... :???:
