Hee hee - here we go with the results of the evil Gryfindor quiz!
It's been a tough decision as to how many points to award in some cases. I've ended up being quite strict this time, but I've tried to be as fair as possible to all Houses.
As a reminder, here are the questions again - but this time with Gryffindor's answers:
- Q1. Who was taken away for questioning by the Committee on experimental charms and why?
Ans: Mortlake; for extremely odd ferrets (CoS, Ch 3, Pg 38 US or Pg 34 UK)
- Q2. What surface was alight with sparks as though encrusted with diamonds?
Ans: The cauldron of water in the graveyard where Lord Voldemort returned (GoF, Ch 8, Pg 97 UK)
- Q3. Who has white blond hair?
Ans: Firenze (PS, Ch 15, Pg 187 UK)
- Q4. What warning did Harry give the twins?
Ans: Watch out for the bottom stair, it creaks (CoS, Ch 3, Pg 26 US or Pg 25 UK)
- Q5. What room at Hogwarts is always unlocked?
Ans: The Trophy Room (SS, Ch 9, Pg 153 US or Pg 114 UK)
For question 1, all 3 answering houses correctly identified Mortlake as the wizard who was taken away for questioning by the Committee on experimental charms, as a result of his extremely odd ferrets. Ravenclaw and Slytherin also gave correct page references and chapter numbers, so
Ravenclaw and Slytherin score 2 points each. Hufflepuff gave a correct page reference, but missed out the chapter number so I've awarded
1 and three quarter points to Hufflepuff, and a
quarter point to Gryffindor.
For question 2, the cauldron of water in the graveyard sparked everyone's memory.
Ravenclaw were spot-on with a page reference and chapter number, so score the
full 2 points.
Slytherin identified the correct page reference but didn't give a chapter number, so score
1 and three quarter points with
a quarter point going to Gryffindor. Hufflepuff got the correct answer but gave no chapter number and a page number of 693 in the UK paperback verson of GoF which has totally confussled me as my UK paperback only has 636 pages. I've therefore given
Hufflepuff one and a half points (although if Hufflepuff can unconfussle me about the page number thing, there may be an extra quarter point for them) and
Gryffindor score a further half a point.
Firenze's was correctly named by all 3 answering Houses as the individual with white blond hair.
Ravenclaw correctly pointed outthat there are two references to this, one in PS, chapter 15, page 187, UK Paperback, and one in OoTP, chapter 26, page 598, US Hardback, so score the
full 2 points.
Slytherin correctly mentioned the reference in Book 1, Ch. 15, pg 187 and also score
2 points.
Hufflepuff got both page numbers but didn't give chapter numbers so (they're going to kill me for this) score
one and three quarter points, with
a quarter point going to Gryffindor.
For question 4, Ravenclaw found a different warning than Gryffindor's. They answered that Harry warned the Weasley twins to be careful because Moody could be watching them buying the Venomous Tentacula seeds from Mundungus Fletcher.
OOTP: chapter 9: page 171: US Hardback. Although not the same answer as Gryffindor gave me when setting the questions, it still fits perfectly as a warning that harry gave the twins, so I'm giving
Ravenclaw 2 full points on this one. Slytherin also found another warning - this time a warning look from harry: "'We seriously debated whether we were going to bother coming back for our seventh year,' said George brightly, 'now that we've got-'
He broke off at a warning look from Harry, who knew George had been about to mention the Triwizard winnings he had given them."
(OotP, British version, p.205)
but Slytherin didn't give a chapter number, so I've given
Slytherin 1 and three quarter points, with a quarter point going to Gryffindor. Hufflepuff are going to kill me again as they are the only House that answered with the bottom stair at Privet Drive, and gave a page reference of UK paperback, p.33 (which is in the right area but me is confussled again as it's page 25 in my UK paperback). Hufflepuff also mentioned that harry tells the twins not to tell anybody where they got the money but my brain is frying here as they gave GoF, p.795, UKpaperback as the page reference (why has mine only got 636 pages?) I'm going to give
Hufflepuff one and three quarter points as no chapter numbers were given, with
another quarter point going to Gryffindor.
And finally for question 5, all 3 answering houses correctly stated that the Trophy Room is always unlocked. Both
Ravenclaw and Slytherin gave full page and chapter references, so
each score 2 points.
Hufflepuff correctly answered with a correct page reference but no chapter number, so score
one and three quarter points, with
a quarter point going to Gryfindor
Sooo...
tippety tap...how do all the scores add up?
Total House Points in the June Quiz
Well,
Ravenclaw very impressively score the full maximum 10 points!
Slytherin come in a close second with a score of 9 and a half points.
Hufflepuff did very well indeed too, but the missed chapter numbers mean they score 8 and a half points.
And
Gryffindor who set the quiz this month score 2 points.
Congratulations Ravenclaw on winning this month's quiz with maximum score of 10 points!
In fact, well done to all houses and everyone who helped in finding the answers for their House, plus special appreciation to Gryffindor who set the quiz. I really thought this one was going to give Gryffindor a huge points score, so you've proved me wrong again...looks like I'm going to have to eat that word sandwich from my last post
Adding the results from this month's quiz into the overall ongoing House Points, the current status of the Houses is:
Current total House Points
Slytherin 28 and a half points
Ravenclaw 25 and three quarter points
Gryffindor 18 and a quarter points
Hufflepuff 17 and a half points
Which means that Ravenclaw have overtaken Gryffindor for second place, but Slytherin are still 3 points in overall lead. Hufflepuff are catching up from behind though, and are now only three quarters of a point behind Gryffindor!
With Ravenclaw this month's winner, it's over to Ravenclaw to devise the questions for the next quiz. Have fun with thinking them up, Ravenclaw.
