Would you take any of the characters as a role model?

I'd argue different characters for different reasons.

Dumbledore is a good long range thinker, a master strategist, and is willing to suffer short term setbacks to achieve long term goals. While usually right, he admits his failures.

Molly Weasley provides a loving home for her husband and children. Her family may not have much, but there is always room for one more (such as a Harry). She's the absolute foundation of the Weasley family. However, she's also willing to do battle and her part is the overall fight against Voldemort. In many ways, she's the complete opposite of the Dursley's, who have money but begrudge Harry every meal, and have no love for him.

Remus Lupin is a kind, thoughtful professor who both knows his subject well, and is patient with the less gifted students. He knew how to bolster Neville's confidence, and was honest with Harry regarding the boggart, and his reasons for not allowing Harry to fight it. He was also something of a moderating influence on his more troublesome friends (Sirius and James).

i think Neville is a good role model

come to think of it, if Dumbledore appears brave and a good leader (no disrespect intended ) he better be one as he is the most talented wizard alive. but look at neville. he is weak , accidentprone, talentless , has no close friends , and has suffered severe personal setbacks. but he never appears forlorn or surrendered with his fate.he never whines about his parents as any normal kid would have done to gain sympathy.

In the fifth book he faces the DEs like any man would do. he has as much guts as anyone else

Arthur is really an adorable person but while he was working (for the family, I know ), Molly was raising the kids. She deserves at least 50% of credit for 6 magnificent kids and a prick called Percy!

highsorcerer what can one say but you are right of course. Very astute observations!

Groo excellent point concerning Neville. He is so often overlooked but has shown his true moxy since the first book when he stood up to the trio and tried to stop them leaving the tower in the dead of night.

Reverie You know that Athena and I will both back your point about Molly. She is the glue that holds that family together and Arthur knows it. That is what makes them so special as a couple and as parents. Each really depends on the other for their strengths and to pick up the slack when necessary, and with seven kids there is a lot of slack.

I must however disagree with you about Percy. He may not be correct in his assumptions but he has stuck by what he believes to be the right thing. It should be interesting to see how JKR deals with the fact that Percy now needs to eat crow. As a Weasley I am sure he will face his mistakes and become better for them.

That's OK but remember that Lucius is a genuine Bad Guy and in the end he will come off the worse for it.

The character most like me would be Hermione (no joke, if you really knew me, you'd know.).

But for my role model...hmmm... probably have to go with... right now...Firenze the centaur. He's been banished for helping DD after Sybil gets the boot, and he helps Harry in the first book, even though Bane and Ronan got mad at him. Now there's a character!

Harry---He tackles his problems and is headstrong with what he has to do, he is kind and friendly and often misunderstood--but deals with it. PLUS, he's cute!!!

Mr Weasley---stands up for what he likes/believes in and doesnt care what other people think, he feels comfortable with what he does and where he stands.

Hermione---do i have to say it?? she is the role model for EVERYONE that goes to school--like Ron said, her boggart would be a 9/10 on a homework assignment.

i think that hermione and mcgonagall are my role models... they r both so real and protective... they do wats in the best interest for their friends (Dumbledore is a good role model 2.....he speaks the truth!)
