lol, good one!

I suggested Fred and George because I didn't think they would be the obvious choice. And I'm sure its going to be someone that is not at all obvious.

This might be a little out there BUT, what about Dudley Dursley. I have kind of wondered since the dementor encounter in OoP if Dudley weren't a wizard and Petunia got his name removed from the lists in exchange for taking in Harry ( Vernon wouldn't approve of Diddy-cums being a wizard). However, in light of recent events she may reconsider. :???:
Like I said a little out there  :devilish grin:

waaaaaayyyyy out there...

j/k

I don't think so. So far, Dudley hasn't shown the least little bit of inclination towards magic. Yes, I know, Rowling has said that someone will suprise us with a bit of magic (see "the magical squib" thread), but I think it'll be Petunia. But I don't think Petunia will take an adult education class at hogwarts or anything like that...

I think Dudley's just what he seems to be: a dud.

Its a good point, maybe now that Umbridge has gone Molly and Dumbledore will convince F&G to return to Hogwarts and finish seventh year.

Nahh they are making money with the shop and I don't think that they could be talked into giving up on that endevor. They have put too much work into it.

I don't mean to throw cold water on this topic, but the only recent JKR interview I've been able to find is the World Book Day chat, and I couldn't find anything in there about someone returning to Hogwarts. Can anyone point me to where JKR actually said this?

Oh, and since less serious answers are being permitted, I'd like to suggest Marcus Flint. After all, he spent 8 years here the first time around (while everyone else only spends 7), so he must really like Hogwarts...

I said I wasn't sure if it was true or not. I've just heard alot of people talking about it on here and in other forums. I didn't read the interview where JKR "allegedly" said it, but maybe someone else does and they can give you a link.

Anyways, if Fred and George do come back, maybe they'll hire Lee to go run the shop for them while they're at school.

I'm sorry, EWPZ, I should have quoted more of your original post. I do remember you saying you weren't sure if it was true or not. In part, I was responding to exactly that issue, because I've been spending some time recently trying to track down the exact JKR quotes that prompted certain discussion topics, and I've come up completely cold on this one.

I had thought that maybe JKR was misleading us a bit, and that when she said this she meant someone who wasn't a teacher or recent student. After all, Voldemort has been at Hogwarts within this series, and so the quote might indicate the location of the final battle.

I recently looked up a lot of interviews online, and have saved them to my computer, but I haven't been able to read through all of them.

About the World Book Day chat being the only recent one...

well, it's not. I know for a fact Rowling has given interviews to a magazine called Movie Magic. She's been doing quite a bit of promoting, and with her, from the very beginning, she'd hint at something that will happen in a book much later. In one interview that I know she did, I read it in a magazine, and no, I don't remember which magazine, she said that someone unexpected would do magic. This was at least before OotP. She didn't say it would be in book 5, 6, or 7. So try looking in not-quite-so-recent chats... especially for the rumors that seem to be everywhere (they've had time to spread, so if she DID really say it, it would have been a while ago)

happy hunting.

Could it already have happened with Lupin? After all he did come back and JKR didn`t say we knew the person who was coming back, did she? (not being cheeky actually asking) if not then I think it might be Hagrid. That would depend on him being pardoned and actually accepted into Hogwarts.

Good Point about Lupin, because I was just thinking that we know of other wizarding schools in other countries, but are there any more in the UK? Because if not then all of the teachers must of been pupils at some point, in which case they have all 'returned' to Hogwarts. (I know there is another thread about schools mentioned, but I'm talking about where the staff got there education from, as a slightly different angle)

We don't know what the proportion of wizards to muggles are and so can't really estimate how many wizard children there should be in the country, and therefore approx how many schools there should be.

not to mention, Hogwarts is in Scotland, but we know of at least a few different countries the students are from... Seamus is from Ireland, and we know Ron and Harry are, at least, from England. I can't remember if it's in the book or only in the movie that Oliver Wood is Scottish. According to Won, Parvati and Padma are Indian. Cho is obviously Asian, but it could very well be that they (the Patils and Cho) now live in the Britain area, but their ancestry is of other ethnicities.

there could be other schools but since Hogwarts is the best school in Europe, maybe the Patils,Cho etc preferred it

I think people are likely to travel for the sake of better schools, I had to travel quite far to mine every day.
I know Hogwarts is in Scotland and Harry is from England and Seamus from Ireland, but maybe Hogawarts covers a geographical area rather than 'country' boundaries?
