Loggin On Solutions

Postby Paul » Monday 26 August 2002 7:25:25pm

If you are having difficulties using the login page, there are a few options which should work:

1. Instead of using clicking on "login", click "login to check your private messages"
or
2. Click the "Log me on automatically each visit" box.
or
2. Go to one of the forum topics and post a message.

Hope this helps.

Hi Quicksilver - have you changed anything on your profile or on your computer since it last let you into the forum? Have you tried the suggestions at the top of the page, and what messages (if any) do you get?

Just checking your profile in the admin section...yup, you're still showing as an active member. If you still have problems today, I can try changing your password and do a test to see if the new password works - I'll then send you the amended password in the email so that you can log in again. Just post below if you still have problems and I'll do the password-changing test thingy.

Sorry about the problem Hermione - not sure what happened but good to see it worked in the end.

I'll check whether there are problems with the "log me on automatically" thing. I can vaguely remember trying it before on the big upgrade a few months ago and having problems then but I'll double check things.

OK, yes, double checked and there does seem to be a problem with the "log me on automatically" thing. Actually there are a number of variables which can be altered, some of which totally mess up the entire logging on process, leaving it impossible or difficult to log on at all (which, having now gone back and looked at things is the reason I started this thread). The current configuration is the most stable I could find at the time to allow all browsers I've tried (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera and K-Meleon) all to successfully log on and stay logged on once they've entered the password. However, with this configuration, the "log me on automatically" thing fails.

There were ways of getting it to work, but it had the drawback of meaning that some browsers could not log in at all :???: .

I'll try again shortly to see if there is a way to keep the cross-browser compatability whilst getting the "log me on automatically" function to work. As I've mentioned elsewhere here, I'll have a whole lot more time to devote to the board and everything from around mid-March/start of April onwards so will try altering all the variables one by one and testing on each browser again (quite a few possible combinations) to see if there is a fix around that time.
:)

It seems to be a problem quite a few sites with phpbb2 boards have but others hae manged to get around. So far I've not got around it whilst retaining cross-browser compatability...yet. :)
