TheDragonMaster - i think it says somewhere in the bible that after the lashings, Jesus' back looked like a ploughed field.

They certainly portrayed that well.

I'm a Catholic as well, and it seemed to me that it was gored up for Hollywood. Maybe Mel Gibson was trying to show to those who may not know, just how much Jesus went through before he died, but for those who are aware, and have been made aware their entire lives, it was a little OTT. I know that that's probably how much he went through, that the Romans were very unforgiving as a rule, but I don't know how to believe that people can be that Sadistic.

i've seen the passion two times and it is extremely powerful. you see the movie, then you realize that this really happened and it makes it that much more meaningful. evryone should see this movie. plain and simple. no matter what you believe or don't believe, or how sensitive you are to blood and beatings, you should see it. i'm not saying all of this b/c i'm catholic (which i am) and i'm trying to tell people what to believe, but i just think it would be a mistake not to watch this movie and think a lot about it (which i guarantee you, you will think about it when it's over).

i'm a religious person ( a lutheran), but i don't think i will be seeing this movie. i already know the story, and know how jesus was tortured. in confirmation (religious ed) they had us watch a movie about jesus and how he was crucified, and it was rather visual, though nothing i'm sure compared to this movie. i know if i went to see it, i would have my head turned away 3/4ths of the movie... and i'm not going to pay 8 bucks for that

yeah, most people in the theater did have their heads turned. i know our youth group leader (jane) had to turn away at some points. and even some people who had seen it already had to turn away.

i still need to go see it, but i am scared...I need to go with some one to hold me or something when it gets intense...i'm emotional like that, and none of my close friends want to see the film or if they do they wouldn't hold me...lol...and my mother does not want to see the film because she hates going to the cinema (its a looooong story).

oh guys, CM'ON!
the movie was great. it is the first movie that shows the Passion. I believe it is a harsh one though.. I can't really explain how I felt when seeing it. I'll try to explain it by saying this:
2 of my friends and I went to see it a month ago just because we were curius and had nothing else to do.
so, after supplying ourselves with pop-corn and coke, we take places and wait for the movie to start.
the munching and the noisy sippings had stopped between the second and the 5th minute..
when the movie ended everyone's face was frozen and shocked. the cokes and popcorns all around were untouched.
and yes, the movie was really bloody but that's what happened. and I'm glad someone showed it to people.
and by the way, the movie's title is the PASSION of the Christ not the Jesus from Nazaret or Jesus Life or something... what did you expected?

@Meg: don't be. it isn't a scary movie or something else that common. it isn't even a movie. it is the truth and if you believe that you can face it, then go and see it.

I know it is the truth and it isn't just a movie. That is what makes it all that much more scary...because I know my Lord when through all of that and I am just a weak little girl...if it was just a story I could tell myself the whole time that it was just fiction to calm my over emotional self but with this movie I can't. I am going to go, no doubt, just waiting for the right people and the right time.

Wow, I'm really in the minority here... Where I live, there are very very few Catholics, so I'm not used to ever being around many Catholics...

anyway, I haven't gone to see it. I really really debated on going to see it or not, but I think it would be better for me to wait until it comes out on DVD and watch it, when I can pause it and take a breather for a few minutes.

I do know that that's really what Christ went through, and from everyone I've talked to, Christians and non-Christians alike, the movie really depicts what happened on that terrible Good Friday almost 2000 years ago. There was a reason he got 39 lashings instead of 40. Up until that time, no one had survived 40, and Pilate knew that, and so he told them to stop when Christ was only an inch from death, just from the beating.

When we're talking about a race of people who, for entertainment, watched as Gladiators were killed by ferocious beasts or other Gladiators, it's not so far-fetched to realize that all the blood and gore in the movie is true.

So, I can't really answer the poll... I haven't seen it, but I don't want to "go" see it, I want to wait until I can see it in my own living room.

I've seen the movie and I think it was really good. There's more to the movie than blood and gore. Yeah, those parts bothered me. I'm not into violence like that, and it was harder since it actually happened. But the things that touched me the most were the people around Jesus and their reactions. Also, the flash-backs. I won't say more than that cause I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but there's more to the movie than the bloody, gory parts. And I think even those were necessary in order to be truthful about what Jesus experienced.

I don't understand this title. Why is it called the PASSION of the Christ? What passion is there? Is it something to do with religion? As I've said earlier, I'm not a religious person, I'm an atheist, but I would like to see it only out of curiosity (but not in a movie, I would prefer watching it 'safe' at home on DVD).

At least in the Catholic religion the Passion is the term used to refer to the suffering that Jesus Christ endured during his tourture and crucifiction by the Romans. That is why the movie is called the Passion of the Christ
