Does anyone know about this...?

Postby Enis Reilly » Thursday 15 April 2004 11:48:27am

Hi!
I hope thsi hasn't appeared in any other topic, but, at least, I haven't seen it yet... :???:

Has anyone heard anything about Daniel (HP) being cut off?! I mean, I've heard some rumours that they are changing the actor that plays Harry to another one, because he's becoming "too old"... Can this be true?!

I mean, why don't they simply let Daniel to play this character, because, that way, he would get older at the same time the character does... This would ruin the film, in my opinion... :-(

And what about Dumbledore - does ayone know who will play him, now that Richard Harris past away?!

Michael Gambon is the new Dumbledore. Yes, there were rumours about Daniel not being cast for later movies. But he signed up for GoF, as well as Rupert and Emma. What about next movies? Even Dan doesn't know...
Furthermore he won't get older at the same time that Harry does - he's 15 now I think, and Harry is 13. Before they make the 5th movie (in 2007 probably), he'll be an adult.

Of the trio, the only actor who seems interested in doing all of the movies is Rupert Grint. This is taken from the "Movie Magic" magazine dedicated to Harry Potter (I got it at Wal-Mart... lots of good stuff)

Question: Chris Columbus was saying that you could probably go on making these films as long as there are stories to tell. But how long do the three of you actually want to continue doing this? You are committed to a third. Will there be a fourth or fifth (this is athena: this is apparently an old interview)?

Daniel: Every film takes 10, 11 months to do. I don't think we would have to encounter that decision for quite a while. So I'm concentrating strictly on the third one for now.

Rupert: I'd like to do them, because I really have a good time doing them. They are just so fun, so I think so, yes. I don't know.

Emma: We have just finished the second one and I'm not thinking about the fourth or fifth or whatever

Now, yes, this is an old interview, but as of the end of filming for CoS, Rupert seemed to me to be the only one really enthusiastic about going on to do the whole series. Daniel and Emma have signed for GoF, but I really don't think they'll all stick around until the seventh movie.

I terms of the actors being too old, Sean Biggerstaff who plays Oliver Wood is 21 and surely he must be in POA film as Quidditch is featured.

Actors in the early to mid twenties play children all the time. Remember Beveley Hills 90210 - Luke Perry was about 30 when he was playing a high school kid. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt still play those sorts of roles, although they may now be graduating to college students...

Therefore, if the actors want to continue I don't see why not unless they develop an interest in body building and become Schwarzenegger-esk (although that might suit Crabbe and Goyle).

yes, but I agree with you, they could easilly do the characters (especially with the characterisation) and they wouldn't have problems on looking younger :-)

I dont' know that Sean Biggerstaff would be in GoF... yes, Quidditch is mentioned, but even in the books, he makes a little cameo appearance of (probably) no importance, and since they're trying to slim down the story as much as possible, Harry and Co. might only see a few friends at the World Cup, and most likely won't stop to chat with most of them...

The decision to have new actors could very well lie in the hands of the actors themselves... After GoF is out (there's a loose release date of November 18, 2005) they'll be getting older and may want to do something other than Harry Potter. If they go on to do OotP, by the time it's finished, most of the kids will be college age. It happens all the time that child actors really want to do something else with their lives, and if they decided they wanted to go to college rather than be Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy for the rest of their lives, I think that's cool, too...

yeah, they wouldn't want to get stuck in a certain genre etc. look at young american actresses like reese witherspoon- she has trouble finding roles other than playing pretty blondes!

The trio have signed on for the fourth movie. Most unfortunate, but there you are. *heavy glower in the direction of WB*
The fourth movie, seeing as it's too long, will also most likely not have ANY Dursleys in it, and might not even include the Quidditch World Cup.

How could it not include the Quidditch World Cup? It is pivotal to the overall plot of the book.

They're including the Quidditch cup, though I'd imagine it'll be a much much shorter scene in the movie than it is in the book... I saw something in a magazine or something talking about all the thousands of extras they're going to be using for that scene.

Ooooo! I want to be an extra in that! I'll be a Beaubatons girl!
I hope they don't cut out the whole entire Cup. I'd rather it be split into two movies if it will include alot more important stuff.

My hope is that they'll start making the movies longer as the little kids that they're targeting will be getting older and more focused. :-?
