Gollum's Song

Postby Alice I » Saturday 10 April 2004 7:37:05pm

Where once was light
Now darkness falls

Where once was love
Love is no more

Don’t say good bye
Don’t say I didn’t try

These tears we cry
Are falling rain

For all the lies you told us
The hurt; the blame

And we will weep
To be so alone

We are lost
We can never go home.

So in the end
I’ll be what I will be

No Loyal friend
Was ever there for me

Now we say good bye
We say you didn’t try

These tears you cry
Have come too late

Take back the lies
The hurt; the blame

And you will weep
When you face the end alone

You are lost
You can never go home

You are lost
you can never go home

This is Gollum’s song track #19 on the LOTR Two Towers sound track.
It is a haunting tune and portrays the duplicity of both
Gollum/Smeagol and the One Ring.

What do you think?

It's a really great song... it sums up Gollum perfectly. But I like May it Be (on FotR soundtrack) and Into the West (RotK) better. Those two songs can bring me close to tears sometimes, but Gollum's Song doesn't, maybe b/c I'm not a huge fan of him. He is a fascinating character though. You can't hate him nor like him, but you always pity him (I do, at least).
Those who haven't heard it yet can go to http://www.tower.com, search for "Two Towers," and listen to a little clip of it. :)

Is the link you typed correct because I get page unable to be displayed when I follow the link? :???:
It IS an excellent song and the tune is so mournful.
My six year old has memorized the entire song and sings it a lot. It is currently one of her favorite songs and I am sure that is everyone here got the opportunity to hear it they would also love it!

Alice I, I also like this song. It is very haunting, very true to the character of Gollum. My sister made me listen to it when they got the CD into her video store for the LOTR promotions.

I like the fact that the characters are so well developed that a song can even be created for them. I guess that's what I enjoy about the fantasy/adventure genre, you can lose yourself in another world.

I haven't got the sound tracks yet (never know which one to buy first :-?), but I like this song very much. The characters in LotR are so fascinating, especially Gollum, Eowyn (although I'm not sure whether I like her or not) and some others.

I love that song...love May It Be too.....Into The West however would be a brilliant song if it hadn't been murdered by Annie Lennox :( She couldn't sing in the 80's nevermind now....but thats just my opinion....

I have all 3 soundtracks...actually my fave song isn't on them....its from the extended TTT DVD when Eowyn sings the funeral song at the burial of Theoden's son in Rohan. I love that, its brilliant...probably not if someone translated the liyrics but just as it is in the movie its brilliant....
