The Hand Of Glory

Postby Nobby » Wednesday 31 March 2004 11:31:27am

Concerning the interview that J.K gave on the Chamber of Secrets DVD, in which she said that something in that movie will have significance in future books, I think it could be the Hand of Glory! The Borgin shop scene was cut in the movie (by looking at deleted scenes) but still showed the Hand of Glory! Why was it so important to keep in? Will it play a bigger role in later books? What do you think? :D

Well the proprietor says that it is a useful item for theives and plunderers.

Maybe Mundungus will use it to steal something from the bad guys

Interesting... The hand of Glory is a useful tool for thieves because if you put a candle in it, the candle´s light is only visible to the carrier of the hand

CoS
When Harry goes to Diagon Alley for the first time using floo powder he winds up on Knocturn Alley instead. The shop he was in had an object called the Hand of Glory.

they might use it to spy, as it would be easier to trape around in the dark unseen when you have light that is invisible to the rest of the world

it could crop up in book 7 where harry will sneak into Voldemorts lair using the invisibility cloak.

I think that LV could see through invisibility cloaks. Dumbledore can, so I think that the greatest dark wizard for 100 years could do it too. LV knows more magic than probably anyone (except maybe DD).

I think the Hand of Glory would be used by a dark wizard or by a dodgy Mundungus type character. The other good guys shouldn't (and probably wouldn't) be hanging around Knocturn Alley - they would be putting themselves at risk from attack in such a dodgy place. Besides they wouldn't really want to buy dark arts materials - would they?

Maybe they only left it in the film to show that knockturn alley is a really dark place where you don´t know what comes next...

there is also the potential that it was used int he film because it was something scary, to make somemore thrill in the movie...who knows!
