FLASHBACK
(To the day before Lily and James were killed)
[i:343kz77g]As Dee Summers prepared to apparate to Hogsmede, she felt a sudden chill. She shivered, it felt as if a dementor had glided past. It was the day before Halloween and Dee was on her way to a meeting of the order of the Phoenix. She took out her wand to Dissaparate. She had collected some valuable information at the last Dark Order meeting. Voldemort had discovered the identity of James's secret keeper. They'd have to put more protection on Sirius. She dissapeared, leaving the cold behind.
When she appeared in Hogsmede, she was greeted by a horrible sight. Everything was silent. Windows were broken, debris littered the road and several fires were smouldering in ashes. Dee's mouth fell open, taking it all in. What could have happened this close to Hogwarts? Voldemort. said a voice in the back of her head.
She started to run. Up the road to the school, past the ruins of Zonkos, and several minutes later she burst into the Great Hall.
It was chaos. There were hundreds of people packed inside, teachers, students, Hogsmede residents, and a few Phoenix members. Many people were hurt, being laid out on stretchers and moaning. The younger students were crying and several people were in hysterics.
"No! I need to see her! She can't be dead! She can't be! Please!Let me go! Maria!" cried a girl clinging to a teachers arm.
Dee flew up the stairs. She needed to speak to Dumbledore. She stopped in front of the gargoyle and gasped out the password.
As she charged up the stairs she met Severus Snape head on. He gave her a look of deepest loathing. He had never looked at her like that, even in school when they had been worst enemies. He looked as if it was taking all his energy to refrain from killing her on the spot.
"What did you do, Summers?" he breathed.
"I...I don't know what you mean! What happened here?"
"Traitor!" he snapped. Snape grabbed her arm and dragged her forcefully into the Headmasters office.
Inside the room were numerous unconcious black robed figures. Professors McGonagall and Dumbledore, Remus and Sirius were standing around the room. As she came in, they all gave her the same stare. Even Dumbledore.
"W...what happened?" Dee stammered. "Did...Voldemort, he....He didn't attack did he?"
Sirius turned to look at her. The look of seriousness and bitterness looked alien on his face. He didn't say a word, but held out a peice of cloth to her.
All the Deatheaters were assigned to one of five groups, ranked accordingly. Dee was the leader of one of those groups. And the patch......the patch had her symbol upon it. She realised the figures lying around were deatheaters from her group. She recognized the limp form of one of the older Slytherin students,Derrik Axle.
She looked up. "You can't possibly think that I had anything to do with this?" she said, her voice unnaturally calm.
"You are the General of this group, are you not?" spat Snape. "He promoted you last week, didn't He? I suppose you didn't see it fit for Dumbledore to receive this information?"
"I...."it was true. She hadn't thought of informing Dumbledore. Dee looked at Sirius and Remus for help. Remus looked away, but Sirius still stared wih the look on his face. She felt a gnawing feeling in her stomache. She could stand anything Dumbledore threw at her, as long as Sirius was there.
"Professor, I still don't know what happened, if you would be so kind." she was amazed at the sharp tone that rung in her voice, but Dumbledore didn't look too surprised.
"Around lunchtime this afternoon, a student burst into the Great Hall saying the Deatheaters were attacking Hogsmede. We tried to get the younger students to safety, but they arrived too quickly." he gave her a serious look. "Several students and teachers were murdered before we managed to capture all the Deatheaters. A few still got away, but it was lucky the Order was here for a meeting. I expect you forgot to tell Voldemort that?"
Dee's mouth fell open again. He suspected her! How could he....he had no proof!
"Plus, the book is gone." the Headmaster said shortly.
The book. The Book of Sincerity could've been Voldemorts downfall. Only she Snape and James had ever known where it was located. And Peter, but he was asleep in his animagus form, so Dumbledore didn't know. How could someone have stolen it?
"You....Dumbledore, you must believe me! I had nothing to do with this!" she cried desperatly. Remus looked betrayed and Sirius walked over to the door and stormed out without looking back. Dee felt the bottom drop out of her stomach as he slammed the door. She wanted to run out and follow him, to force him to believe.
Dee turned to face Dumbledore accusing stare.
"I can give second chances to those who betray me. But not those who betray Hogwarts." He had never taken this tone with anyone before. Even Snape looked a little surprised.
Dee felt her knees go weak. He didn't believe. She wasn't getting another chance.
"What about Veritaserum headmaster?" suggested Snape lightly. Dee felt a surge of relief, thank God for Snape! Then something like a punch in the stomache.
"No..." she choked out. "I had to take the antidote a few hours ago when I was being interrogated...its still in effect...it won't work."
Dumbledore nodded silently and held out his hand. A tear slid down her cheek as she handed him her phoenix talon necklace. It was over. She had lost his trust. Sirius hated her, Remus too.
And as Dee walked back to Hogsmede, she completely forgot to mention that Voldemort had found out Lily's secret keeper.........[/i:343kz77g]
