I have some friends that actually read the HP books... A friend of mine has even read it in english cause she didn't want to wait for the portuguese version... But she isn't a tenth as addicted as I am.

Anyway, in Portugal, Harry Potter is children stuff, you wouldn't see grown ups going to the movies to see the film because they wnat to see it... the only reason they see it is because they're going with they're children

Anywho... as a ultra super Hp fan, I'll always go to the movies to see HP.

It reminds me of the Star Wars Movies.....
I remember seeing Star Wars as a kid...saw it over and over again...then couldn't miss Return of the Jedi. Then had enough...didn't even care what happened in the next "episode".

We have the newest one (hmmm...maybe called Phantom Menace) on VHS and I've never watched it. (DH bought it).

So I suspect it will be the same with many thousands of viewers...they will just lose interest. But didn't they say (the book PR people) that over the years some of their readers haven't continued on with the series but others became fans -- so even though you may lose x amount of viewers with the movie, you will gain x amount as well.

My niece is 11 yrs old and she zipped through books 1 & 2 like there was no tomorrow...but she hasn't been able to zip through book 3 at all. She claims to still be a HP fan and has books 4 & 5 but I don't anticipate her ever reading them as she seems to have lost interest in the entire thing.

Okay, I'm going off topic here...let me steer back on course...
I think yes, they will lose lots of viewers for one reason or another...but will gain others. I think the movies will continue to do well at the box office but may not break huge records.

As much as I "like" (don't want to use a stronger adjective here) the movies, I hope they someday make a more grown up version...you know what I mean...the movies are so shallow in comparison to the depth of the books. The LOTR's movies seem to be geared to a more grown up audience while the HP movies are geared towards a younger audience.

I suppose it's much too soon to be thinking of movie remakes...that'll be some 25+ years in the future...and I'll be old and gray by then!

Those are my opinions...for what it's worth :-)

I think this one will still be quite popular. It's reaching the point in the series where the plot becomes darker and more mature. If not this movie, then I'd estimate definitely by GoF it won't be a "children's" movie anymore. It becomes quite involved and I think will attract a number of adults.

I know I'll certainly go to see movie #3...I've seen the first two and enjoyed them for what they are. I didn't expect them to be as good as the books, but nevertheless, I enjoy them.

It'll be interesting to see what a different director does with the movies. Also, new characters. Too bad June is still half a year away...saying 6 months away seems shorter!

It's just my opinion, but PoA is the best book of the series. It remains my absolute favorite and I think the movie will be just as popular if not more popular than the prior two have been. Lupin is just delicious.

LOTR is steeper stuff, more complex and the characters are all "adults" which is why it appeals to adults. HP is written, I think technically classified as ages 9-12. I'm 39. I think the books are wonderful and have read them all, and have seen both movies and will see all the movies as they come out. I saw the trailer at LOTR. Was only disappointed that there are no publicity shots yet of Lupin. His character has the most exciting sequences in PoA. Even my 7 year old can't wait to see him on the train when the dementors arrive where he goes from being sound asleep to standing in the aisle with fire in his hand.

But Lupin IS in the trailer - for a second. He is behind Neville, telling him what to do to give Snape a different appearence :grin:

i think people will go see the movie - i was hooked after watching the first movie, never even looked at a harry potter book! but now i wanna see everything!!!!!! lol - is it possible to do that - see everything??? lol

PoA will be popular but how popular i dont know. i like the first two films and will defiantely watch the next one. just think as a person who has never read the books (i know what a shocker), they might not fully understand the plot as much as we do as they havent had as much background etc. Mayb they wont enjoy it as much beacuse of this. Dunno?
