I did realise you were joking, but since I do nothing at work all day I thought I might explore the possibilities.

there can't be too many muggles knowing about the wizarding community because like staed there would be too many people wanting magic to be used in their everday life

Well, at the time of reading hte first book, I also thought that it was strange that Hermoine knew so much stuff about the magical world before she arrived at Hogwarts. I know she read about it and everything... but where did she find the books?

Then I thought that maybe everyone except Harry got a set of directions to find diagon Alley, because honestly, how woudl they know how to get there first day of school otherwise? And if they had directions, maybe they could go early, and check out some of the magical world, and know about it that way.

Oh, by saying everyone but Harry, I meant that it coudl be common pratice to send out a map, and Harry's was either acidentally forgotten, or mcGonagal knew that Hagrid woudl have to take Harry thus didnt' bother with the map... or didnt'want it getting into the Dursley's hands...

Oh yeah, and I did wonder why the news caster smiled... why woudl someone smile about such strange news... maybe have a puzzled look on his face, but smile? Maybe he's a squib, earning his way in the real world? Or he has a relation like Hermoine, no other magial people int he family, and that's how he knows about it???

Anyways, that's about enough out of me! (hehehe)

What thinks?

I'm somewhat loathed to believe theories involving people being squibs. They are supposed to be rare, but we have managed to come up with about 20 people who could be squibs.

Fraud said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" meaning some things can be just taken at face value and have no deeper significance.

You know, that is interesting. I saw an interview with J.K. Rowling that one of her favorite characters is Hermione, because she's useful. She can give us the details of almost anything using Hermione's character, because you can just assume she read it in a book somewhere. But where to get the books?

I'm currently rereading the Sorcerer's Stone, and I've about decided that when she went to get her books and supplies for school, she bought (or checked out, if she had access to a Wizarding library) a lot of additional books.

Then I thought that maybe everyone except Harry got a set of directions to find diagon Alley, because honestly, how woudl they know how to get there first day of school otherwise? And if they had directions, maybe they could go early, and check out some of the magical world, and know about it that way.

You know, you have a point, but one weird thing: they originally sent Harry a letter assuming (or maybe just hoping) he'd get it and go through the same process as everyone else. Hagrid was only sent as a last resort.

That is curious, though... hmmm... they were supposed to send an owl back to Hogwarts after they received their letters, right? Maybe after they responded, they received follow-up instructions... *shrug* just a stab in the dark... I have no idea, that is a curiosity.

I almost agree with you, Aberforth, but everytime i take something that J.K. Rowling puts in a book as face value, she up and suprises me! I don't really think he's magical, or even that he's a squib, but I think the newscaster probably knows something... otherwise, like Holly said, he would have had a suprised look, rather than a little smile... just my opinion... could be totally off on this, but hey, that's the fun of theories...

Edited to delete Holly's signature --> what was that doing here??? :???:

I have a comment about something said earlier. SOmeone said "Surely Collins father couldn't have known about magic before he was sent to school" or something like that. I find it odd though that a muggle family managed to produce two wizards, don't you? I mean we never really hear about the statistics of muggles having wizards directly, but somewhere when talkingto Ron about filtch I'm sure Ron says that a Squib is even rarer than a muggle-born, implying that to be muggle born is in fact odd.

That is a good question... wonder if there's a reason that wizards would be hiding out or whatever as Muggles... ???
