JKR never said he won't die. :???: I have seen scripts from most of her interviews and something as big as this would be all over the place...

The thought of Harry dying is a sad one. But the thought of Harry martyring himself to stop LV is a powerful image.

you're right nightfall! maybe by some twist (JK is good at those) the only way to defeat Voldemort will be for Harry to die (or kill himself) too. the prophecy only said both of them couldn't live... not both of them couldn't die.

you know... i used to be totally against the idea of Harry dieing, but now i think it wouldn't be so bad if it was done in the right way. it could be really screwed up too but i think JK could pull it off quite nicely. but i'd still cry nonstop for days.

then again... i really hope harry lives!!!

Oh come on! The point of this book is that good will always prevail! Even though many adults are reading this, JRK has to keep in mind that Parents read it to their little kids before they go to bed.

I can not see how u can possible think the main character is gonna die.

We don't want Harry do to die, what more honor is there in a boy who sacrificed himself so that others might live (hmmmm???) and although the books were marketed for children, they seem to be getting darker and more mature as the characters grow and discover the world around them. I just suggest of just holding on and waiting til the end, who knows maybe both sides will be correct, eh?

I voted No

Postby Augusta Longbottom » Tuesday 9 December 2003 2:23:08am

I voted No for several reasons.

I think JKR has alluded to the fact that he may die in the end, but I think that is just to keep us wondering, like when the Lord of the Rings trilogy was written, everyone wondered if Frodo would live. There was so much hype over whether Frodo would live or not that once the final book was released people were crazy about getting thier hands on a copy just to find out.

HP is the "boy who lived" and I think he will remain that. She will get us all worked up about his death as she nears the end of Book 7 but in the end he will live. Aside from the hype this will stir no matter what direction she goes in, the bottom line is that this book has become a book (marketing wise) geared towards kids so in that respect I think HP has to live.

And she doesn't need to kill HP just so she doesn't have to write about him again.

Aside from the complexities of the story-line, each book is written such that it can be the only book one reads from the series. Each book also has a basic moral to it in the end, to leave the one-book-reader with an optimistic view of life...and I think in the end of book seven that will remain the same...good will overcome evil.

Why would you rather that Harry died than Ron? :???:

I don't think Rowling will kill off Harry . . . it just . . . it just doesn't seem like something she would do. I mean, if you think about it, if Harry dies, then that means that Voldemort will be able to gain power, won't he? I thought Dumbledore said something along the lines that either Harry or Lord Voldemort must die, so I guess that if Harry dies that means Voldemort will take over the Wizarding world. If that's the case, then how can Rowling kill off Harry? That would just be cruel

I would prefer Ron to survive if only one of them could. I just prefer him, and its hard for him, always being in someone's shadow.

Ah- that makes sense.

To keep the conversation on topic, I hope Harry won't die, but hasn't it already been said that a lot of people will die by the end of the series? That sounds kind of foreboding to me . . .
