A Modern Satire...a non-fan fiction

Postby Meg Boyd » Sunday 28 September 2003 2:52:51pm

*Okay, since this is a free-write area, I felt I would stretch my wings past the normal fan fictions. In light of current events, troubles with friends, frustrations with the older generations, and a new English class I am taking, I am going to try my hand at the art of satire. Who knows, this might be a total flop and I'll go back to writing Fan Fic and other fanatasies, like I used to. If it wasn't for all of my stories being lost when my computer crashed last year, I probably wouldn't have started this new one...but here I am...storyless and wanting to post more of my writings...so here I am trying to write satire. None of this stuff writen now, or later is meant to offend anybody, just as a quaint, imagery-filled way for me to vent my frustrations. Have a good day everyone!!!! ANd I hope no one gets really down by this begining, it is rather dark, but I promise you it will get lighter!!! :) *~~~MEG

A shabby wooden door creaked open. With its swing, a wisp of early morning fog swirled around the entry way as a red haired girl stepped out on to the rotting porch. The girl pulled on a wool hat and pulled her jacket more tightly around her as she carefully climbed down the porch steps, as if each footstep were carefully choreographed, in hopes of not falling through the rotting wood planks. Her heels crunched the frosty blades of grass, this time with a sense of urgency, not exactly caring what each footstep destroyed. The rhythm of her swift, crunching steps increased in tempo as her stride turned from a quick step to an urgent trot. The girl ran across the frost covered front lawn on the gravel lane that led to the main road. The girl quickly glanced back at something whirring past the corner woods, and ran faster and faster down the gravel lane. Wisps of red hair fanned out the back of the blue woolen hat, as the girls chilly legs ran harder and harder down the gravel lane. Each sneakered foot slammed harder and faster to the ground as a wheezing rhythm emerged from the girl’s weak chest. The wheezing grew louder and faster, then suddenly the wheezing’s volume increased to a near ear splitting level. Whirring and squealing mixing with wheezes echoed across the sad, cold, gray trees bouncing back and forth ringing across the rotting houses in the frosty dew. The girl cringed at the sound of the devil’s music, as the whirring and wheezing died with a venomous squeal. The rancid smell of death tickled her nose, and the fog, now blackened with death swirled around her, infiltrating her lungs with wheezes and coughs. A new door creaked open, blasting the girl with electric heat, tinny music, and the wheezing laughs of children.
