SPEW

Postby Mint » Tuesday 4 November 2003 9:10:13pm

Do you support Hermoine's decision to form SPEW? House-elf seem to hate her now. I mean, at first I thought it was a good idea, but then when elfs were avoiding that room - I would just give up.

ANd why didn't Harry tell her that only Dobby was picking up her "gifts"? :???:

I don't support SPEW. I think Hermione is being too stubborn now that the house elves have demonstrated they prefer it this way. I would probably have done the same thing in Harry's place. He probably thought that telling Hermione about Dobby taking the hats would just get her more worked up, and she might storm into the kitchen again.

I don't know about Harry's intention of stating the fact that Dobby is the only house-elf picking up her gift to Hermione. But I'm quite confident that if we need the cooperation of the house-elves, S.P.E.W or Hermione and most probably Dumbledore (if he doesn't die) is the only link.

So you think that because of SPEW - elfs will show more support in ther future? But they really hate it now! Plus, Hermoine is only targeting the Hogwarts house-elfs. SHe can not walk around wizard's houses asking to "speak to the local house-elf".

i think hermione and spew has gotten alittle out of hand. i think she had good intentions for trying to give house elves more rights, but i also think she was going overboard. she's not helping the house elves any, and she should have realized it by now from looking at winky! plus the way she tried to free them by hiding clothes all over the common room and tricking them into picking them up wasnt a good way. instead of just automatically freeing them, they should be given a choice. :D

Lol... That was the statement!!!

I think she should listen to elves... They don't seem to want freedom, but I do think that we should be kind to them. If SPEW could be turned into an organization to give elves good caring, I would definitly support it.

I agree that they should be treated kindly but should be allowed to continue with there work. Afterall in book 4 Dobby confirms that he actually prefers work more than leisure and riches. I bet the other house elves like work even more.

You know what? I think that main problem with SPEW is Where its taking place. Dumbledore is very good to them. He is a great master to have. Its the elves in other places that r miserable.

i like to think in this way- "only fight for someone if they want to be fought for, or have no way of representing themselves." er... unquote, that isn't a quote. i think hermione is being a leetle bit silly, with all the right intentions.

Thats right, I can never understand why some ppl try to help ppl who don't want to helped. I suppose its just her personality, she thinks she knows better than the house elves what is good for them.

But sometimes the people who need to be helped, don't know or don't realise they need help.

I agree with you all though, she is doing it all wrong and trying to trick them into taking clothes was just stupid. I
f only because Hermione isn't their master, and only when DD gives them clothes they'll be free I think.

hehe don't worry pinky, I think I understand what you're saying ;) !

I think DD would be more than willing to free the elves, but as they don't want to be freed, there's a problem..

DD is doing great things for them - he is willing to employ any elf that asks for it and provides them with great living conditions. ANd if any elf would ask to be free DD would free them.

Its just house-elfs of Hogwarts are Happy! Its other elfs that are suffering.
