Avatars are now available!

Hi folks, I've just finished uploading and enabling the avatars. You can pick one by clicking on the profile link at the top of this screen. Then click on the Show Gallery button in the avatar control panel at the bottom of your profile screen.

Yes, certainly - There is a way I may be able to enable you to upload your own avatar, but I haven't fully investigated that part yet. If I can get it to work then as long as they're less than 9.5kb in size (the smaller file size the better) and not too large in height and width, you own avatars will be great. Got to put the file-size restrictions on, otherwise pages on the forum could take too long to load (plus I've got to be a bit careful on how much of my own bandwith I'm using at the mo).

ask permission i believe...so it won't be hotlinking...unless it's a gif or the site says otherwise

Gryffindor Student - if you're thinking of using one from another site, firstly check whether you have permission to use it (unless the creator has clearly stated that an image is Public Domain, copyright exists on all creative works, no matter whether there's a copyright notice visible or not). For example my little fractal avatars are perfectly OK to be used by folks on the forum here, but if another site uses them without asking me, they're breaking my copyright, and I could legally do very nasty thingies to them.

Chocobo - Thanks - glad you like the ones I've picked! I'll check out the uploading feature next weekend, that way (if I can get it to work) you can upload any image you have permission to use.

If I do activate the uploading feature, folks are going to need to be really careful about copyright of images though.

Quicksilver - ack yes In ths case, Angelfire's servers have automatically redirected the intended image to an "image hosted by Angelfire" pic, which is their way of saying "oops - you shouldn't hotlink to images on our servers". I'll edit the hotlink out in a couple of days
