Grindelward

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Postby pinky p » Sunday 31 August 2003 5:20:58pm

it says somewhere that Dd defeated the dark wizard Grindelward in 1945. who is this Grindelward and could he contain any significant clues on how harry could defeat voldemort?

i think it will have some significance, and it will possibly bring back the character Nicolas Flamel. I feel that we haven't heard the last of the philosphers stone and Nicolas, that story just seems to separate from the other 4. I think the info on DD's chocolate frog card, along with the info about Grindlewauld will come back.

maybe they'll have a connection to Harry's past. I really hope we learn more about his past in the upcoming books. The dude who deafeted Grindewauld could of had a prosaphy about him defeaing Grindewauld just like Harry. There could be a picture of him somewhere that could give Harry advice or something. I don't know. Highly unlikely and far fetched now that i think about it, but it's just a thought.

I just had a VERY weird idea...I know this is a very long stretch and everything, because im not even sure I believe this. lol. Anyway, do you think there is any connection between Grindelwald and Adolf Hitler? We know that Hitler was defeated in 1945, and so was Grindelwald who is a Dark Wizard. Also, there is lots of controversy over how Hitler actually died...Did he commit suicide...or was it some other way? Since there is no definate answer, it makes me wonder if he wasnt killed in a...normal way. Perhaps he was killed by Dumbledore, and they said he was killed some other way because they couldnt figure out how he was killed.

Funny you should bring that up because I have been thinking the same thing...I mean the 1945 thing is very uncanny, and the name Grindleward (sp) sounds very germanic...I am not sure if it is or not, since I am not an expert on germanic language, but it seems like it, doesn't it???

That's a good point, i never thought of that!

I did mention on another thread about Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank, because her name sounds german, and there is the connection with Germany. I don't know how this is related, though...

I was thinking about 'Wilhelmina', and I found this on the web:

Queen Wilhelmina ... was Queen of the Netherlands from 1890 to 1948.

...

On May 10, 1940, Germany invaded the Netherlands and Queen Wilhelmina and her family had to flee to England. With no real army or the weapons to even attempt a defense against the powerful German onslaught, the country surrendered on May 14, 1940. In England, Queen Wilhelmina took charge of the Dutch government, setting up a chain of command and immediately communicating a message to her people.

Does this connect in with HP? If so, she would have been against Grindleward.

What does everyone think about this? :D

wow, I think you are all on to something here. When has JKR not had some sort of hidden connection in her characters backgrounds? I think you really have a solid link here. I'm bummed there were not more responses to this topic as I really think it is one that could turn out to be a great topic of discussion.

And about the picture, how random is that?!?!

I heard that one of the future books is going to be called "HP and the Alchemists's Cell", which makes me think of Nicolas Flamel as well...
