exactly...Draco has never done his dirty work ever...so why not blame others for his father's actions...he will "make" it Harry's fault, but since Draco is not challenge compared to a slew of DEs and LV, Harry will not budge...but perhaps Ron will...Hermione and Harry are always holding him back...Ron's gonna pop someday, and I hope he doesn't get in trouble for it...

I cant ever see Draco turning good, he's been brought up to think that he is better than everyone else, nothing is ever his fault, and everyone else is around simply to do what he wants. Even if Voldermort did do anything to his father i think that although he would want revenge on him, it wouldn't turn im over to the good side. i mean he's never known anything else, i dont think that he actually know's how to be nice, caring or compassionate.
I think that he will definately blame harry and dumbledore for his father being in prison. he thinks that what his father was doing was right, and harry and dumbledore shouldn't have gotten involved.

While Young Master Malfoy will continue his evil ways, I feel that in the end, the houses might be sorted again, into THREE houses. And if this happens, Young Malfoy would get sorted into Gryffindor.

This probably will not happen, but something has to happen to get the four houses on speaking terms. I think JKR knows how to do this and I look forward to reading it.

This change might cause some of the teachers to be removed due to their evil influences: Snape:)

They need to start over, without the Evil which is associated with Slythern House.

exactly...there must be away for the houses to be together...and a new house system is one way to make it work...although it is easy to group people by their similarities, sometimes we miss seeing the beauty of differences by segregating...perhaps new houses, or more oppourtunities to mix them up will help with relations.

I don't think eliminating Slytherin as a house is an option. Hogwarts is steeped in tradition and sorting into 4 houses has been going on for eons.

Would the sorting hat (being created from the 4 founders) even consider resorting students or sorting into only three houses?

Yep and its only a few bad eggs over the centuries, say a hundred for argument's sake. How many thousands of slytherins haven't become dark wizards. I am almost 100% certain that Barty Crouch Senior would have been a Slytherin and he wasn't evil.

Well, it's what the death eaters and their opposition have in common - they both think they are right.

However, stereotypes should have died years ago. And I'm sorry, it's like the English royality system. Merit means nothing (to some extent); blood does. Prince Charles or his sons will eventually rule England. Not based on popularity; just blood.

Don't get me wrong; blood also matters to some extent in America. Politicians like the Kennedy's are also powerful due to blood (though many of them have merit).

It's really a worldwide problem. Ever read "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo? In it, a man became a doctor because of his status of a don. Merit meant nothing; and he was the worst surgeon in Italy.

I think a better world would be where merit meant things; not bloodlines or family connections. But the problem still exists; in England, in America, and pretty much everywhere. The books take a stand against discrimination of all types.

The monarchy in Britain is just a figure head; they have no power. Having said that the monarch still retains the power to dissolve both the australian and canadian governments!!! not the british one though.

Sorry I have to disagree. There is a house of Lords, and a house of commons. Do the house of lords get their places due to birth or merit?

Again recently, the House of Lords has had much of its powers removed, on the grounds that they are not the elected leaders of the country. They're just there for show too.

Hogwarts still needs to have the four houses for traditions sake, however i agree they do need to get rid of the expectations placed around them, especially slytherin. With Voldermort back in full swing they need both the students and the teachers working together against him.
Although having only 3 houses may sort out some of the problems, it may just mean that there would be more conflict within the individual houses as opposed to between separate ones

Merging the houses is not an option. Not only will it ruin the traditions of the school, but I am still maintaining that out of 250 members of the Slytherin house, only a handful are bad. The stigma around Slytherin must be removed, I agree with that, but doing so will be difficult as the Slytherin reputation has existed for many generations, and new pupils are warned about it as soon as they join. In effect, Slytherins are being isolated even before they are known.

I sure hope JKR mentions some good people that have come out of Slytherin. It really seems like it has always been a starting place for evil or at the best jerks. Kind of hard to believe that it was started by a guy that wanted to kill of muggle born kids and so many terrible people have come from it, yet they keep it a part of the school.

Slytherins are driven by ambition, which has led SOME of them down the dark path towards power and glory. The majority of Slytherins won't do the same. I'm also hoping that we'll see some good Slytherin's in the future, which is why I started this topic in the first place, to see whether you all felt the same. Its good to see that most of you do :D

I would really like to see some good come out of Slytherin. Maybe some of them will join the DA. And they probably wont be AS frightened about it because Draco's father's in jail, so who's going to punish them?? Anyways, I think we really need to see something good from that house. I think to make that whole house bad for a sixth book would be really old. I dont care about how bad slytherin is anymore, I would like to see them do something other than tease and laugh at people.

and Draco, I really think that deep down there must be some good. I dont know where it would come from though. Not his father. His mother? I dont think that's likely because she must be a bad person as well if she wasnt burned off of the family tree and Kreacher ran to her because she's the only one he trusted. I dont know about Draco though. I raed a theory somewhere that said that whenever Draco is saying something mean it's actually only disguised as mean. For example, at the quidditch world cup after the game with all the death eaters he told the three that they were after mudbloods and they better get going. It sounded mean and nasty, but was it really a warning? I dont know if I belive this theory yet, but I thought it related to the post.
