Neville Longbottom ROCKS! :)

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Neville's Teachers

Postby highsorcerer » Sunday 6 July 2003 7:13:19am

Professor Sprout obviously has done well by Neville, as Herbology is his best subject. Professor Lupin turned a nasty comment by Snape into a confidence builder for Neville by not making fun of his dementor and coaching him the right way. It's one of the reasons Professor Lupin was an excellent professor. The third teacher that has really worked wonders on Neville is Harry Potter. I may have said it before, but Harry had a choice between pointing out that in a real dueling situation, his opponent wouldn't be facing the other way and holding their wand loosely, or building on Neville's first small success (first time he was able to disarm).

Neville can really be a great wizard when he's ready for it. Even Harry was amazed at how well Neville started performing in D.A. after the Lestranges were sprung from Azkaban. I suspect he got a good OWL on DADA, and now that he's faced Bellatrix and the other D.E.s down once, his confidence has gotten a much needed booster shot. No doubt he'll start bewildering his 6th year teachers with the magic he's able to perform now.

On topic: I don't think Harry'll die as JK has hinted at the possibility of further books (or rather not said never after 7), and what would the title be? Also the prophecy implies one will live and she'd never let Voldermort survive. I though DD was going to die as I heard that WB wouldn't miss the killed character and as the actor who played DD died I put 2 + 2 and got 7!

We really have a bunch of Cho-hating, Neville-loving peeps here don't we.

In response to that last part (again, I'm sorry to have brought up any painful memories...feel better soon! :D ), I love Neville, but I don't hate Cho...I just didn't like some of her behavior in book 5...but all people have the potential for change...let's hope she capitalizes on it.

Her behaviour was typical of what I would expect from someone in her position which is prehaps why although I found it irritating I also tolerated it.

BUT anyway, back to the important man - Neville! He does ROCK! :D He annoyed me in the first book, probably because of his helplessness and I felt pity; but now his character's starting to kick ass! Go Neville!!!

Neville is the man! He used to be the kid that got picked on and was completely useless but I think the DA got him out of that stage. He was right there along with Harry fighting the DE and he stood up to Malfoy more than once now. I almost hope the "trio" turns into the "quartet". :)

Neville is awesome

I was so happy to see his character expand and develop in good ways through the DA, and even more pleased to see his loyalty and strength during the DoM fiasco, and and estatic to see his inclusion in the prophecy...I am still contemplating on his significance on that...

GO NEVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are right. Neville is getting a lot braver, now we know why hes in Gryffendor. If he stands up to Snape, that would be amazing.

Ok, I know I just posted, but this came to me after i hit submit...sorry...

But what about Neville's knowledge of plants and that weird, pus spewing plant he had on the train that he said had magic powers...I mean JKR did seem to make a big deal of pointing that out...What kind of powers do you think the plant has and how will it (and Neville's basic knack for plants) help the order???????????????

Just a thought

But why is that wrong? Hermoine is a great witch, but she failed miserably at the battle of the DOM. Neville, never great, stood up by Harry at then end - without a wand and with broken nose.

It's not really power but temperment that makes you what you are. Harry and Neville represented power in the face of evil. Hermoine was book smart, but lacked the power to battle evil in the DOM.

Neville will probably never make a great auror, but he'd be great at herbology and teaching it. Hermoine may never make a great Auror, becuase her book smarts aren't enough to combat evil in the real world. Harry, however, will make a great Auror, because despite his grades, he has faced evil and fought it off.

I always LOVED Neville. I didn't think he was brave, I thought he was clumsy and cute. But he proved he was brave as well and I hope he'll have a big role in next two books. I hope he's the child of the prophecy, althought my head tells me Harry is. And Harry is, but I wish it's Neville!!! That would be a twist!

neville

Postby Augusta Longbottom » Friday 12 December 2003 5:22:53pm

you know, female-alien, I had been thinking the same thing...that perhaps Neville will turn out to be the prophecy child and not Harry. You know, some sort of twist to the plot or something... I'm veering off topic here, but I think if HP were to die in the end (which I doubt he will) it would be because of this...rather than him dying because of LV being the one to live, he would die as would LV -- sort of like him dying to save everyone else. I digress...

Right from book 1, I have loved Neville's character. Although, before I think I felt a motherly instinct towards him...sort of felt badly for him and kept hoping someone would take him under thier wing. As his character has developed I have just been amazed. I guess I hadn't thought too overly much about how his role would change, so I took for granted he'd always be nothing more than clumsy Neville.

I do think he will be the one to defeat Bellatrix Lestrange in the end as well, but haven't a clue as to how.

OT again...about the wands, didn't Ron end up getting a used wand when he got his new one? Or am I imaging that since nearly everything he has is second hand?

Neville is awesome!! Pre OotP, he was the "fourth man" of the trio, helping them out (remember his stand in PS/SS). Post OotP, he is now Harry's most powerful teenager ally, when he proved his battle valour in the DoM. Expect great things from Neville in books 6 & 7!

wands

Postby Augusta Longbottom » Saturday 13 December 2003 6:41:31am

Thanks for the update Sonkem (sp) I'd completely forgotten about that. Perhaps I should reread the books a 3rd time since I'm way behind the rest of you :-)

Speaking of wands, I'm really curious to see what difference a new wand makes for Neville. I think that just because he's getting a more active role as the books go on I think it won't be surprising if he gets a wand that has something significant about it -- you know, like Harry's wand and Voldemort's wand. Just a thought.

it could just work the same way as ron...i.e. not a special wand but its his own wand brought specially for him so his ability to do magic will improve....he might melt less cauldrons now  I mean, he should be a bit braver now shouldn't he...how could he possibly still have a phobia of Snape when he has fought death eaters....
