The stealing of blood

Postby Broccoli » Friday 18 July 2003 9:10:59am

When Harry first hears about the weapon he gets to know that it is something that can only be taken by stealth... This reminded me of the scene in book 4 when Wormtail takes Harry's blood... ("B-blood of the enemy . . . forcibly taken") And then DD has that triumphant look...

Then later when Harry has detentions with Umbridge she takes his blood as well, which made me think this might be the weapon Voldemort is looking for...

We know it wasn't in the end, but do you think that the fact that Umbridge took Harry's blood still has some important meaning?

I asked myself a lot of question about Umbridge taking Harry's blood.
But i can't find any good solution.
And by theway, she used to take blood from anyone who 's been in detention with her, so I'm not sure there is a specific meaning in her behaviour.
and anyway, VD has already got Harry's blood, knowing he used it to recover a body, so I'm not sure he needs more of it.
But as yuo say, the most importat point is in DD's smile when he heard about Harry's blood used by VD.
I'm pretty sure this episode will become more than useful in a close future.

Yeah I think the blood was just to re-inforce the brutality of what Umbridge was doing, and make it even more shocking.

hmm..yeah, cos Lee Jordan got the same detention as Harry....but i suppose the fact that she did it to others could be a cover up so that people didnt think she was only taking Harry's blood...then she keeps Harry's blood and disposes of the rest.....

I dont think Umbridge having Harry's blood is anything important. Like someone said it was probably just to show what an awful woman she was. What do you think would have happened to Umbridge if Harry told Dumbledore or McGonagall?

This is what I though as well. She wasn't taking his blood, it was all being transferred to the parchment  . And I can't imagine what importance a blood covered parchment saying "I will not lie" would have.

Yes, it might have remained in the parchment, but then, one time Harry also felt VD's emotions at the very moment when Umbridge touched him... I still have the feeling that there is a connection.

There is a theory that after Voldemort has taken Harry's blood he has a human part in him and can thus be killed.
