What I want to know is how did James Potter become Head Boy if he was never a prefect? Also, did anyone else notice that the last name of the boy being chased by Dudley in chapter one had the last name 'Evans". Coincidence, or related to Lily Evans?

Sonkem, Hagrid told Harry that James and lily were head boy and girl somewhere in the first book, can't remember where, sos.

oooo....that is a most huge mistake.....

though my sis has some theories...

maybe rules were dofferent then and head boys didnt have to be prefects first and maybe they were just selected by the results in the year before.....

or my sis says maybe it came out the Lupin was a werewolf and so by popular demand he lost his prefect position and then James got it instead and later became head boy

Simple, he was made a prefect in his 6th year and then became Headboy in his 7th. I've read this discussion on the HP lexicon. And the Evans has been brought up there and here too!

Also, as Sonkem said...he could have become Headboy with no prefectship, but I would doubt that scenario as it would take some doing...especially to impress DD enough.

metalwasp... maybe you can try searching this forum and the other forums for the different speculations on your queries. The two questions/ inconsistencies you mentioned in your post above have been dealt with a couple of times already... one example is the thread "Mark Evans".
