Hi folks, just a bit of news about how the upgrade is likely to go. I'll be starting the backups of all posts shortly after 10.00am (British Summer Time) on Saturday the 24th August. All posts made up until then will be safely backed up in case everything goes wrong, but anything posted <b>after</b> then (until the upgrade is complete or has failed :eek:

could possibly be lost if problems occur). The backups themselves are likely to take an hour or two, after which the upgrade will start. If you visit the forum on Saturday, you'll quite possibly find that it's not here, or error messages may occur. I've no idea how long it'll take and a lot depends on whether things go smoothly or start to crash around my ears, but as soon as it's finished, I'll post here again to let everyone know.

Wish me luck - I think I'm going to need it :smile:

I hope it works! Another forum went through something, no clue what it was, but it was down for several months and every thing was erased. I hope that doesn't happen. Good luck Paul!

Thanks everyone - I can virtually guarantee everything won't be erased. If things do go wrong, it could be a bit difficult piecing things back together but it should be possible. Just starting the first backups right now.

Ooookaaay....I think most basic things are finally just about working, although there are some problem still to sort out. Gotta get some sleep now but I'll try to smooth out the glitches over the next 24 to 48 hours.

I can't get logged on in Netscape yet, but Opera and Internet Explorer are OK here. If you have problems logging in, try the check box on the login page - and if still having problems you may need to delete any existing broomsticks and owls cookies.

Sorry everyone, things are worse than I thought - gonna keep trying to get this fixed but if I still have no luck we may have to go back to the old forum. There may be a bit more "downtime" in the next 24 to 48 hours.
