A lonely Boggart

Postby Cougie » Friday 27 June 2003 7:13:45am

Remember when Mrs Weasley wanted to check what's inside a writing desk... Moody saw through it with his magical eye and said it was a boggart.

Well remember Lupin said no one knows what a boggart looks like alone? (book 3)

Moody Knows.

What do you think it looks like?

good point.....although maybe the boggart can sense who is looking at it and when Moody does even through floor and desk it still looks like his greatest fear....

Dealing with a Boggart

Postby highsorcerer » Saturday 28 June 2003 3:37:41am

It seems rather odd that Mrs. Weasley ignored the most basic rule of dealing with a Boggart. You bring other people with you, so the Boggart won't know what form to assume. If she'd brought Harry, it might have turned into a dead dementor - not remotely frightening.

I think that she went up there alone for two main reasons though..
1) to prove to herself that she could do it...(which she obv couldnt')
2) so that no one would know that her greatest fears are that of her husband and children dying...

Also, I dont' think that a boggart would have changed chape if Moody saw it with his magical eye!!! But I sitll never think that we will findout what it looks like when alone!!!

Damn JK for not writing it in the books somewhere!!! Ihate unsatisfied curiosities!!! :evil grin: ;)

I've never understood how getting rid of a boggart actually works... The way Lupin described the process in PoA, it would seem that the Riddikulus spell simply makes the boggart change from being something scary into something funny, which makes people laugh, which makes it go away. In other words, laughter "kills" the boggart, not any particular spell.

However, after that initial "boggart in the wardrobe" encounter in PoA, it seems like the Riddikulus spell itself is what "kills" the boggart, rather than any laughter. Did I just misunderstand the original lesson, or did JKR change the process?

Not to mention, whenever Lupin casts Riddikulus on a boggart, it turns into an orb (the moon), but that doesn't many any sense, because that's what Lupin is scared of, not what he finds humorous... Can anyone enlighten me??

maybe it has to do with the person mood before the spell will work?
i mean the person must feel happy in order for the Riddikulus to work

when lupin says the spell though hes doing it to make the boogart come to him so he can repeat the spell and kill it therefor it turns first into what lupin fears

but maybe mrs weasley wanted to tackle it alone because she saw most of the people in the house lying dead on the floor and if sirius had seen the harry one what would he have done or if gearge or fred or ron or arthur etc had seen their ones or any weasley one they'd have probably been as bad as mrs weasley??

im still amazed harry didnt freak out when the boggart changed into him
