Book 5 Mystery :: The Arch and the Veil

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Hi Lizzy,

The best way we can do this is if we disect all of the mysteries that surround Luna.

I'm going to make a new topic.

Book 5 Mystery :: Luna Lovegood

We can discuss this further there :)

A take-charge person...I like that! :D

Did you get an answer from Paul? I look forward to your new topic...also, in relation to something you mentioned earlier, if you like Hufflepuff, you should get sorted there...I have posted with one of the Hufflepuffs, Sonkem (who also welcomes everyone to the forum), and she's great!

On-topic, I'll be interested to see what Mal has to say about this topic whenever she/he signs on next . . . I really do need to go back and re-read the whole section about the veil, and really, the whole book full-stop! I think I'l start on that tonight. :)

Bummer! I just lost my post! Ah well...

This is basically my point.

Lizzy-- I agree that the veil is only one way and that Sirius died because he passed through it. I was only intamating that perhaps Harry could find a spell or item that would allow him to try for a safe passage through the veil. I am assuming that the wizards at the Dept. of Mysteries have been working on the arch and veil and may have come up with something. It's only a thought, but I agree that the normal physics of the matter is: When you're dead you're dead.

Luna-- I am looking forward to your new post. I'm going to go over now and see if it's there. I hav not had time to reread any part of the book so it will be good to see the text as you mentioned.

I didn't bother to read this thread in it's entriety because I knrew what I was going to say already, so excuse me if I am repeating you, but I am confident the Ministry used to execute people by sending them through the arch.

Just as in our society, I'm sure there are some wizarding crimes that warrant death rather than a prison sentence.

Who knows. Maybe once the Ministry felt they had control over the dementors after Voldemort's downfall 15 years ago, they stopped using the veil because they knew the dementors would take care of eventually killing (or worse) the prisoners.

I was thinking that after the veil had initially been used to execute people they had abolished the death penalty.

that makes no sense. dumbledore himself stated that the happiest of wizards would remain in the veil and not come back as ghosts. why would the ministry put someone away where they have a chance to return...let alone have a chance to be happy.

i'm still not sold on the veil as an "electric chair" of the past.

I think the veil, as I've said in other places is the fabled veil between the worlds of life and death.

That being said I guess it could be used for executions. Never did think of that! Might make sense with the audience chamber it sits in as well.

Another thought though, just to throw it out there, maybe there is a way to communicate with the dead. If there is then maybe it's a place one would go to try and speak with a deceased loved one. That may also explain the room it's in.
