What is your favorite web browser?

Postby Paul » Tuesday 3 June 2003 6:37:56pm

I'm currently part way through trying out as many of the main web browsers as I can. Just wondering what everyone's favorite browser is, or whether you've never tried anything other than Internet Explorer. If you're still limiting yourself to IE (Internet Explorer), there are a lot of diferent ones out there with some really great features. I've still not found anything I like more than Opera yet. What does everyone else think?

Yay - a Linux user - cool stuff Wedge. Which version of Linux do you use? I'd intended to partition my new hard drive last week to try Linux as a second operating system but a combination of an old motherboard and password protected files on my old drive meant that things didn't quite go to plan, so I'm stuck with one partition and just Windows for now.

Edited the top post to include "other" option by the way.

:) I'm using RedHat 8 at the moment... Yeah, Linux doesnt like partitions with Windows at all. There probably is a way around it, but i'm just using two seperate drives... I dumped RedHat on a 20gig, and have my Win2K on a 80 :)
RedHat is really decent, you should fit a new Hard Disk, and shove it on :)

Go Opera!

It had been using IE for the longest time and decided that I didn't like it anymore (am not really sure why, just because.) And then I came across Opera's website and downloaded it and I love it. It's so pretty and nice. Will now go admire spiffy browser...

You should check them, most are better than IE.

I've tried Opera following Paul's advice and enjoyed it a lot, but using Internet in my office, I can't download any programmes, so unfortunately I have to keep using IE.

Great to hear you like Opera, Broccoli. I guess offices can be a bit iffy about downloading stuff but if you're using it on your home PC then enjoy! Have you tried the skins at http://my.opera.com/customize/skins/ ? You can really make it look totally amazing with these.

Hee hee - I'm guessing you must be using one of the skins :)

Eventually I'm determined to give Linux a try. Really want to try to escape the Microsoft Tax (in other words having to pay about 160 pounds to update your operating system every 6 years or thereabouts, or risk running an outdated system with who-knows-what vulnerabilities as MS no longer support or issue security fixes for their older OSs including Windows95. According to Microsoft, it seems Windows98 will also no longer be supported from January 16, 2004 (7 months from now), and Millennium Edition December 31, 2004 [source: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecy ... elOne.aspx ]).
