Gee.. I'm not so technically impressive, but I could definately put my teacher skills to good use. Hmm.... it's an idea for the near future. Maybe cruise around for some ideas from other sites and see how often they get posts and so on.. a bit of research first. I sooooooooo love to write!

I have an idea. Hey, Riley, remember when we set up our own Harry Potter websites? We could use that same server to create this. It would get rid of our need for dreamweaver, and also we wouldn't have to pay. Of course, then our advertising would be severely limited, as we'd have to pay money to advertise it... I simply don't have the money for that. But, how about it. I can't remember what the website was. What about you, Riley?

Have you guys heard about Fiction Central? It's a website to publish original fiction. It's affiliated with http://www.harrypotterfanfiction.com Here's the link- http://www.fictioncentral.net/

Ummmmm... I already made the website... I just have to set up the different forums and sections... besides, it's OUR site, not somebody else's! Once I have all the forums set up, I can show it to you (by the way, is there a reason why BaO looks exactly like forums from www.forumup.com?

Well, it can't hurt to put your stuff on more than one site. Then more people will read it.

BaO looks like a lot of other forums because it's the same type of forum as those other forums. It's a phpBB forum. That type of forum has this specific design. There are little changes you can make (color, headers, smileys, etc), but the general lay-out will look the same.

Well, it might not hurt other people, but it can certainly hurt me. I like the idea that somehow I might one day be published, and putting it online is publishing suicide.

Well, yes, if you have any hopes of getting it published, you shouldn't put it online. Whether it be someone else's site or your own, no publisher is going to publish something that's already online.

yes.. you must be careful. I would use this writing site for practicing writing more.. like put up a subject and have people write a short story or poem or something about it. Like we used to do in English and English lit. Also, writing different styles would be fun. And challenging ourselves by keeping to a certain amount of words, adjectives, propernouns, etc.... And also writing plays and manuscripts for movies and diary entries and so on. It's all to help us practice to write better. Our actual work that we want to PUBLISH would benefit because we are able to practice. So... on our site we could set up discussions and have people write in each one for that style of writing. What do you think?
Some ideas for the text types could be....
Eg. Text types
Before you talk or write about a text, you need to be able to identify what type of text it actually is.
Newspaper or Magazine article (write a review for the HP movie)
Debates (write a for and against arguement for ...........)
Songs (write lyrics for
Fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, fairy tale, etc...)
Non fiction (write a short story about a family members experience in the army)
Report (write a report on the
Play scripts (write a one act play on.....)

Then us moderators and others can critically read it and offer suggestions. The idea is to practice and extend ourselves....

Responding to text
The process of reading, listening to, or viewing a text, and then talking or writing about it in some way. Resonding involves talking or writing about:
The meaning of the text (there may be many possible meanings)
The language, structure and visual elements of the text
The purpose of hte text and its effects on its audience (including yourself)
How the text relates to the world
Reading, listing and viewing texts is a subjective process - that is, people will think about and react to a text in different ways. You will need to be able to explain your own personal reaction.
Composing Text
The process of producing a written, spoken, visual or other kind of text.
Think about your purpose ,your audience and other aspects of the context
Know how the type of text is usually constructed
Know the kind of language taht is usually used in this type of text
Planning, drafting and revising the text
Creating a text is a complex process. Sometimes, there is more than one person involve in the process. The creator of the text is refered to as the author or text creator.
