Victoria Bushfires!!!! Riley! Are you ok???

It's a nightmare... I expect you've all heard about it. But what I was wondering is, has anyone heard from Riley??? He lives over there, I'm not sure exactly where but it might be right in the middle of all the bush fires!!! I tried to text him but he hasn't responded and has probably gotten a new phone as it was his bday just a while ago. Could someone help me make sure he's ok? If you can reach him, please do! 173 people dead, whole towns burned to the ground in a matter of minutes.. the wind just forced through like an inferno hurricane.

God help them all. In these difficult economic times, whole towns being destroyed is just .......... (I have no words)

so anyway.. please let me know if you hear from him. I'll send him a message but that's all i can do I guess.

ok... DUMB ME. I meant VICTORIA FIRES. Queensland is FLOODING. (How about that.) and if i had just read Riley's profile I would see that he posted today. So if he's got time to be online.. he must be fine. Still.. I want to hear what's going on just the same..

I'm alive!
...barely.

Okay, a quick recap.
The fire swept in from the East, and it came rushing toward my house. Of course, the wind didn't die down at all so I was stuck in the house with a blanket over me. The fire stopped bout 2 meter's from my home because the CFA (Firemen) turned up and did their thing. My house is saved, and I am there now. Parts of outside are scorched, and my dog, cat, sheep, LAMB (Godric, it's Bob), and goat are dead/gone.
My friends have lost their houses and they're staying with me.
I am still on HIGH Ember Alert so after this I have to go turn the sprinklers on.
(This was over a period of Saturday, Sunday and Sunday. Partly Monday)
I cannot believe this happened and my family is still in shock
Hopefully the Healsville (Okay, Heidi might only know that town) is still on uncontrolled fire... and it might be heading our way... again.
So... wish me luck!

I'm so sorry about all your pets and animals. There are so many wild animals stranded now.... They are saying it's like Sept. 11 with no one knowing if anyone is okay.. everyone is still trying to find their loved ones and friends as people are coming out of the hills after being stranded during the fires. Mobile phones aren't working ,whole towns are gone, infrastructure is burnt down so there are few places for people to gather. It's great you are able to house some people! The whole country has donated almost 40 million dollars to the red cross to help victims of these fires. And the sad bit is.. most of these fires were lit ON PURPOSE. I wonder if they realise they are now not just arsonists, but murders too....

I'm so glad both of you are ok! I thought of you guys as soon as I heard about the fires. It's so horrible. So many people killed and injured and homeless.

I'm so sorry about your animals, Riley. That's so sad. That would be so scary to have the fire so close to your house.

Is Queensland anywhere near Kingsland ARKANSAS?? if they are close, shouldn't they be protecting each other's kingdoms??

hahaha! it's good to laugh. But no... PLEASE could someone change that to VICTORIA fires. Queensland is soggy.. not burnt!


There's a big thing on tv right now.. raising money... the tally so far is like 60 million dollars!!!! Considering there are, what... 25 million people in all of Australia... that's amazing!!!!!

Oh wow, these fires are just terrible. Thank god Riley's okay! I'm sorry about your pets, it really is quite horrible that so many living things (people and pets alike) are dead or injured. I think it's great that you're housing people in your house, it's times like these that people need to band together to get through things.

Thank god you guys are alright. It didn't really register that I might know people down there. I feel so ashamed. I was so wrapped up in Science Olympiad that it barely ever crossed my mind. I am so sorry about Bob and the rest of your pets, Riley. But I'm glad you're okay and I hope you and everybody else never has to go through that again.

omg!... i read and heard about that on news, tv and who would have thought anyone i knew could be affected.
i'm bad in Australia geography. All i knew was that riley lives in the eastern side, and heidi on the western side Perth.

Australia is quite easy really... only 6 states. I am clueless with America, I know only Washington, New York.

The fires are fairly relaxed now, but the school buses have been cancelled because of the fires.
It's just a waiting game now.
