I too have state testing this week, for English. The test was a piece of cake, but in my opinion, a waste of time. I got so exasperated with it that my friends and I gave one of our story's characters an emotional breakdown. Grr.

Not really a waste of time, good practice really, you'll have exams to do later and they will be less scary and intimidating if you have things like this to do before.

I had the same reading. I found the editing strangely easy, much simpler than that of the practice exam.

Sounds like you two took the exact same test! I went through years of state testing. NY is famous for the amount of testing they put the students through. I got lucky, though. I went through much less than you guys are going through now. I only had state tests in 4th and 8th grade. Then the Regents exams in 9th through 12th grade, of course. Most of them aren't bad though. The 11th grade English one is grueling. It's 2 days.

The sad part is that the teachers are being forced to teach to the test now. :( So much good material is being cut in order to make sure everyone can pass the tests. When I was in 4th grade, we had a brilliant unit on the Erie Canal. We incorporated it into every subject and it was so much fun. It's what I remember most about 4th grade. We even made our own little boats and then visited the Erie Canal museum. But Fawkes (who was in 4th grade eight years after me) didn't do any of that because they had to focus so much on the tests. I really don't think increased testing benefits a person's education very much.

I agree, Duckie, it seems like everything revolves around testing these days..... My English teacher told me not to spell colour with a "u" because "They'd take points off for it on the tests".

Scellanis, trust me. They're a waste of time. They don't count for anything, you learn about how to take them rather than learn about the things that are one them, and they don't really prepare you for the exams you take later. I suppse you've never been to a New York state public school. Consider yourself lucky.

In seems I'm confuzzled by your continuous talk of State Tests.
I think we may have something similar though, South Australian Spelling Test, and the Aim Test are both majorly important Primary School tests. The Aim Test we have to do in; Year 4, 6, 8 andI'm not sure about 10, 11, and 12. :???:
I got 197/200 on the SAST (South Australian Spelling Test) which is awesome considering those were words I'd never, ever heard of in my wee little like

Hmmm, I had semsester exams, which weren't a waste of time, because our teachers made them. Now, later in the year, there's this stupid test called the Terra-Nova I have to take, and it is the dumbest test ever (although the S.O.L. in the states was really stupid). Really, the only tests you should really be concerned about are your finals (20% of your overall grade, eek), the SAT, and the ACT.
