Dudley

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

I still would like to know what dudley saw when the dementors are aorund..... but i really liked the bit at the beginning when he realised that he probably wouldn't see harry again. it completely changed my opinion of him. i thought he was just a stupid spoiled little boy, but that chapter showed that he does actually care (somewhat) about harry and i guess he realised that harry is a brother to him.

Yeah, that was nice. I had a feeling at least a few of the Dursley's would have realized that Harry really was a part of the family and it would be strange without him.

I really would like to know what ever happened to Dudley and his parents.

That was really a touching moment. Dudley grew up with Harry and just assumed that Harry would always be there. I'd like to think they kept in contact over the years

So I guess that's he's the character that Ms Rowling was talking about when she says in one of her interviews that we'll find out that one of the Dudleys has an unexpected side.

Oh wait... or was she referring to Petunia instead?

I don't know. Perhaps both.
I wish that we heard more about the Dursley's. It would be cool to see them try and help Harry in the final scene.

I thought that it was so sweet at the end when dudley shook Harry's hand and told him he didn't think he was a waste of space, it totally changed my opinion of him! :D

Hey, some insight from Rowling on why Dudley changed:

Q: What was dudleys worst memory?

J.K. Rowling: I think that when Dudley was attacked by the Dementors he saw himself, for the first time, as he really was. This was an extremely painful, but ultimately salutory lesson, and began the transformation in him.

I really like that part where Dudley said that Harry's not a waste of space as well.

Yeah. And then it was like confirmation of Harry's thanks for this when he called Dudley "Big D".

Definately...

I would love to have had a little more with the part about Petunia. I guess it just was to show that she might have cared, somehwere down there, but not enough to actually speak up about it.

I really did have a lot more respect for Dudley at that moment.

And I thought it was funny that they stayed true to his character. He really had to work and focus to pull together three or four individual thoughts of his own. :-)

In an Q & A session JKR said that he saw himself as he truely was - a spoiled, rotten, materialistic bully. Seeing this made him appreciate Harry 10fold, especially since after all he had done to Harry he still saved him from the Dementor. That is why he tried to have tea with him and why he said that Harry was not waste of space. (How sweet! ) j/k

Dudley is an often overlooked character in DH. Most people talk about Albus and Snape and Aberforth and Harry. But I think that Dudley turned into a man when he told Harry that he didn't think Harry was a "waste of space." It really must have taken courage. If Dudley were real, I'd applaud him. I really hope they include that part in the DH movies, because it is honestly one of the most touching (and shocking) parts of the series.
