I did a search and didn't find any similar topics so hopefully this is ok...but do you believe there are true witches out there? Do you think they have powers similar to those Harry and friends have? Or is it on a different level? Just thought I would through this out there!

Oh there are plenty of people out there who claim to be witches, they even do spells and things like that, whether they work or not, who knows. I don't think real witches like Harry Potter are real, they are just a part of our brilliant imaginations.

Im not sure about 'real' witches there, but there are 'witches' .. girls who claim to be witches, and they are often not people you want to know. They are a bit.. alternative.. and go against the moral standing of a lot of people.

Paganism and Wicca are religeons that believe in magick (yes, with a "k"). People belonging to these groups may reffer to themselves as witches. Whether there's any truth to their rituls, I'm skeptical.

As for whether or not a magical society exists like it does in Harry Potter, with wizards and witches with wands, goblins, house elves and werewolves, no it doesn't exist.

I don't think it would be possible to conceal such a large and complicated society.

But who knows there might be people with special powers out there...

I agree with the fact that a 'Potter-like' society does not exist. However, I am a Pagan witch with Wiccan tendencies- I believe in spells, my wands, spirits to a certain extent, a god and goddess, and magic (the 'k' is optional). Whether there's any truth to my beliefs is pretty much irrelevant: if I believe they are true and that they work for me, then anything I do based on them will work for me if not for others.

And just to clarify: Paganism is an umbrella term for many different ways of life and spiritual paths from all over the world, while Wiccans general prefer Wicca to be refered to not necessarily as a religion except perhaps in a legal sense.
