Flaw in Book 4?

So, I'm re-reading the whole series in preparation for book 7 and I notice an odd line in book 4 in the chapter entitled "The parting of the ways".

On Page 613 (UK version) at the top Fudge says "you'll forgive me, Dumbledore, but I've heard of a curse scar acting as an alarm bell before..."

Is this a typo or a clue? At first I thought it should read "I've never heard of etc" but I've noticed that JK likes to hide lines like this throughout the series and uses the ... in these cases.

For example in CoS, in the chapter called "The Heir of Slytherin" (Bottom of Page 228 in UK version) Rowling very subtly hints at the diary being a horcrux.

"So Ginny poired out her sould to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted. I grew stronger and stronger on a diet of her deepest fears, her darkest secrets. I grew powerful, far more powerful than little Miss Weasley. Powerful enough to start feeding Miss Weasley a few of my secrets, to start pouring a little of my soul back into her..."

What do you all think? Is there another story about a curse scar we've yet to hear about, how much relevance, if any, do you think such a plot line would have, if it exists at all?

Interesting theory. I definitely think we'll hear more about he scar in book 7. It's been stated many times in the books that the scar is no ordinary scar. I think it will play a significant role in book 7. I haven't really thought about how, but it will.

I definitely think that the lines about the diary in CoS were foreshadowing horcruxes. Of course, at the time I read CoS, I had no idea what a horcrux was and I didn't really think too deeply about those lines.

Yeah it's always great re-reading the series and realising just how well thought out the story is.

I wonder what fudge meant by his comment though. Maybe it was a situation in the past where Dumbledore made a huge error. Or perhaps voldemort has a curse scar.

I don't think the diary is to be considered a Horcrux, but it certainly had some of the same aspects as one. Perhaps, while the young Tom Riddle was practicing and playing around in an attempt to make a Horcrux, early on he hit upon a semi-horcrux kind of thing -- the diary.

As far as the scar goes, I think there will be some reference to how Dumbledore got a scar in the shape of the London underground on his knee. He battled Grindelwald much like Harry will have to battle Voldemort. Perhaps he got that scar there. After all, he had brought it up when telling Harry about the usefulness of some scars.

The diary was most certainly considered a real horcrux, and definitely not thought to be any less dangerous than the others. Ginny would stress that point.
