Actually, disgusting as it seems, it could be that it is some kind of rite of passage though???

Acutally, these are basically kids books, so I can't see that being in there!!!
*thankfully!!!*

I think it's meant metaphorically...
Nope, or can imagine?

Crabbe: "Merlin, this man is delicious!"
Malfoy: "Nah, too much salt"
Goyle:" Whatever...can anyone please give me the ketchup?"

lol,
it could be an interesting fan fic parody.

And yes, most surely it is a name trying to give an impression farther than eating death (as Mist said before (well that's what I remember) it could be related with the idea od immortality)

All these intersting theories, and Mistress Siana's hillarious conv aside, I still jus think that it's a name that they conjured up to sound scary... like Lord Voldemort... to strike fear into the hearts of his enemys!!! hehehe!

and maybe we'll find out one day!

Can't you just see it in a movie..

Hermoine: I've just re-read The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts and found out that the Death Eaters atually go around consuming Muggle flesh
Ron: That's gross Hermoine, I don't believe that!
Hermoine: But it's in a book, it HAS to be true...

hrmm, maybe not?

I also have the impression that the name goes farther, but only metaphorically. Because I can't really imagine Peter eating the old Frank in the Riddle's mansion after he was killed by Voldemort (if that happen I'm gald Harry woke up before Jo described that part in the dream)

I would have thought though, that if she was going to give an explination for the name, that it would ahve been done already, like when Mr Weasley was telling the kids about it after the World Cup, or when Sirus was explaining things to them outside Hogsmede???

Good point there, but maybe wizards are not sure why exactly they use the name, and we will read about the DE explaining it (just lije Voldemort to Harry in CoS, at least in the movie I don't remember if it was also in the book)

at the end of the 2nd book, DD has convo with Harry and the Weasleys...

"Very few people know that Lord voldemort was once called Tom Riddle. I taught him myself, fifty years ago, at Hogwarts. (...) Hardly anyone connected him iwht the clever, handsome boy who was once Head Boy here."
