Is Peter evil?

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Is Peter evil?

Postby Petronella_Pettigrew » Wednesday 28 March 2007 3:19:11pm

What are people's veiws on Peter? Obviously, due to my deep love of all rodents, I have a firm belief he will do some good in his (short?) remaining life, and I don't think anyone who is small and furry inside could be capable of true evil...

What do you guys think?

Nope, don't like him...mainly because Sirius was my fave character and Peter caused everything that happened to him because he is weak and will sell his friends for power.

i don't like him. he's a coward so he'll do anything to save his skin, even if it means killing 2 of his "friends" and condeming 1 to a life in one of the worst places on earth. i completly agree with scellanis.

Exactly! He is just too much of a coward, very unlikable. If it wasn't for him Harry's life would have gone completely differently.

I suppose we should thank him though, without him there would be no Harry Potter story!

Well I really dislike him but I never really cared about the little rat, even when he was Scabbers. I always liked Crookshanks more! :D
But I feel that he will take a bigger part in this last book.

it must. if pettigrew doesn't pay back his debt, the series will be incomplete to me.

Isn't it possible there's more to Peter's story? Something just seems odd about him. Like, why would someone do that for their friends? For power? He was in gryffindor, after all - an oppertunist, though.

- Dumbledore.

Maybe I just like rats too much.

Sorry, that should say "to" their friends, not "for"...

Pettigrew did what he did because he's a fraidy cat (or should I say fraidy rat). He was easily intimidated as a boy and always just followed along with everyone else. He betrayed his friends because he was afraid of LV. He went to LV's side because he's the most powerful and he wants the most powerful person so he can be 'looked after' by that person. James and Sirius were very popular and therefore in school that is who he chose to hang out with but now its LV who is the most powerful.

Hm, Run Away!! gave quite a good portrait of what we've seen of him so far...and that is exactly what bothers me. If that's all there is to Peter, why the hell did he end up in Gryffindor? Also, it becomes quite clear, imo, that James&co did not just tolerate him, they were friends. Real friends, after all, they made him Secret Keeper (something they didn't even trust Dumbledore with). And: he ressurrrected Voldemort, almost singlehandedly. He certainly likes to be close to those who are most powerful, but does that alone make him a coward? It's quite a Gryffindor tradition to equal 'not loyal to death' with 'coward'. I don't necessarily agree with that.

Expect the unexpected, and keep an eye on ol'Peter, I say.

Perhaps Peter started off as a good and brave little boy but was weak inside and easily corrupted. Im sure there will be some sort of development with him in the next book.

He probably felt like it was the only way he was going to survive when Voldemort took over... and was too much of a coward to face death. But maybe he also snapped and jealous about how well James and Sirius were going in life, and that filled him with hatred.
