The Forbidden Forest

[Phoenix in the Ashes]

Bair woke lightly, his face cold. He felt for something on the ground to pull himself up, and then realised that it would perhaps be a better idea to open his eyes.

He yawned.

"Don't try to get up," one of the medic centaurs said. "Just relax for a while. He's okay," he added to the group.

Pleased after hearing from the medics that Bair would be okay, Tales turned to Hildor the Elder.

"Things have been changing around here," Hildor spoke.
"Those... why are they attacking? Someone's behind this?" Tales asked. He knew chimeras weren't exactly peaceful creatures but such organised, grouped attack was almost unheard of.
"The stars aren't shining brightly anymore... darkness will shroud it all...but for the time being, it should be safe."

Bair felt himself getting faint again, with all the talk of dark tidings.

He'd felt it for months... things certainly were changing.

Seeing things has quietened down a bit and it was safe to leave the young griffin and centaur with the herd, Tales headed out in search for his two friends, Orion and Petal.

Bair certainly didn't feel safe enough for Tales to leave them. He knew that there were other predators out there... he could feel them, hear them. They were taunting him.

He wasn't safe with the herd. He wasn't safe in this forest.

It was then that Bair made up his mind - he was going to leave the forest. It was the most outrageous, dangerous and difficult thing a centaur could do. The herd would try to stop him - and it was against the wizard's law that he could roam amongst them.

He spat on the ground. Prejudice. He was trapped, really. If he was caught on the outside by wizards they would send him back, or send him to some other prison.

That was what this place was... a prison, where he was held against his will.

He started to plan his escape.

Tales wandered around the forest, revisiting the areas where the trio usually hung out. Luckily, it did not take very long for Tales to find his other two friends.

"What was that!" Petal questioned angrily, "I can't believe you left us, ALONE... what if something bad...happened to you..." The last part of the sentence went very soft, almost inaudible as Petal started to sob.

"Everything is fine now," Tale said, comforting Petal. "Look, I'm alright!"

It was evening; the centaurs moved slowly with their group to their clearing. In the clearing was everything they needed. It was not large... but there was enough space for all of them.
