Why is Harry lying in a flower bed?

Postby Scellanis » Friday 24 January 2003 6:33:24pm

The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.....The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four.

anyone got any theories on this??

i thought like possibly harry is meant to be weeding this flower bed but has fallen asleep in the process perhaps because its so hot...

but then again i thought the dursleys didnt like anyone to see him so why would he be outside....and why would he be in a flower bed anyways....isnt it usual practice to lie beside the flower bed on the grass so u dont squash the flowers....aunt petunia would go mental

then again theres always...is it actually harry in the flower bed?? maybe its dudley, maybes its someone else intirely...perhaps its ron.....

and also where is everyone...did they go inside cos its too hot or what??

so ur turn...what r ur theories on this??

Was that a quote from JK Rowling?

I think it could be Dudley, maybe harry cast a spell on him...Or maybe Harry fainted after having a flashback or something? oooh, i dont know, i'm soo confused! :???:

I don't know . . . I've got to admit, when I first read the quote, I imagined him using the flower bed as a sort of raft, but you're right, Sonkem . . . it really is an unusual practice.

hmmm . . .

When i first read that I had always asumed that harry was out sid gardening because Aunt Petunia had told him to. He might have just decided to use the flower bed as a plave to rest because it was hot and flower beds are actually quate cool and comfortable when u arent worrying about the flowers which im sure he wasnt.

Does 'the only person left outside' maybe imply that there were other people outside only minutes ago?

Maybe someone got knocked out into the flower bed, because wouldn't most people generally lie on the grass, not in the flowers. Especially considering Aunt Petunia would probably go mental about the flowers and stuff!

It can be easily a dream, Jo uses a lot this. In the other hand I am not sure Jo will use the same beginning as in the last book.

Maybe the Dursleys just left because of Dudley's birthday and Harry decided to sleep in the flowers (still not a theory why in the flowers)

But why would Neville be flying a broomstick on Privet Drive? :???:

Aggghhh! I can't wait until book 5!!

But then . . . when book 5 comes out . . . that means that my junior year is over . . . and I have to start applying to colleges next year . . .

Oh yeah. I forgot to add that it wouldn't make sense for Neville to be flying on Privet Drive for two reasons.

1) What would he be doing there?
2) The Dursleys can't stand magicking follk, so they wouldn't let him on their property, no way.

I think the Dursleys wouldn't let anyone lie in a flower bed in their garden... And I don't think someone would just sleep their. So it has to be an accident...Well, and it really doesn't have to be Harry... OK, Neville is not very realistic, but maybe Ron? ;)
