Dumbledore's Portrait

Postby *Dumbledore* » Thursday 1 February 2007 12:36:25am

So when (if) Dumbledore died, his picture was hung up in his former office. Does anyone know if the Dumbledore from the picture has the same intelligence and wisdom as the real life DD? If he does then Harry and DD could still talk and discuss the horcruxes. Also, McGonogal wanted to know what Harry and DD were doing. She could ask DD from the portrait or any other portrait from the office so do you guys think the horcruxes will remain a secret to her forever or will they find out?

I think they will until the END. The protrait still has the same intelligence as the person which it is of. Remember Phineas Nigellus? I think that the other portraits have been sworn to secrecy. But would that stop after he wasn't headmaster? And then there is the problem of the portraits being in service to the present head. Would the portraits have to tell her? Dumbledore might have used the "Mufeliarto" spell. Does that work on portraits? And I just thought, why didn't Harry get a picture of Sirius? Then he could talk to him through it. It would work a lot better than that mirror. Especially since Sirius didn't have it with him and the fact that it's cracked. But I don't think that Sirius is dead. Would the picture of him be able to talk if he issn't?

Im not sure if the portraits do have to answer to McGonogal but I think if DD told them not to, they respect him and might listen to him. Also, i agree with the sirius picture thing but they didnt expect him to die. I dont know if you can have a painting made after someone is dead or it must be while they are alive. I think the weasleys will soon find out what theyre up to because if Ron is going with Harry, they will become very curious and eager to help.

The portrait is not Dumbledore. Harry could not have full-on discussions with it:

a) because even if Dumbledore was just shoved into it, he would never tell Harry all he knew anyway.
b) Dumbledore very easily have not died. He could have disappeared somewhere or do something, but he knew Harry had to tackle this challenge on his own - it's the same reason Sirius had to also die.

Because Harry needs to do it on his own; or at least not be dependant on someone else - he can be helped by Ron and Hermione obviously.

Portraits are not people. Dumbledore's Portrait might offer some kind words of wisdom every so often, but it's just the essence of the witch or wizard.

And I definitely think the mirror will play a role somehow by the way - no clue how.

One of the portraits reminded Nigellus that the portraits of the past heads were in the service of the current in OotP. And the portrait of Sirius could still be made because of the Choclate Frog cards. How do you think that they got merlin's picture? And the portraits carry quite enough suggestions. Remember that portrait of the nutty healer at st. Mungo's in OotP? He suggested that Ron do some crazy thing with eals eyes, a barrel, and toads liver under a full moon to get rid of his freckles which he called some crazy medival/renesiance thing. And what do the Weasley's have anything to do with this?

I agreed with what PITA said - Portraits are not People, otherwise everyone would kinda found a way to immortality.

The magic within the portraits I supposed, should be the same as the one in Fat Lady.

Ok. but if McGonogal really wanted to know what Harry and DD were doing, she sould ask the portraits right? They watched Harry and DD talk about Horcruxes and goin to find the Locket.

i'm not saying the mirror won't play a role, but i find that when i'm writting my book, and i stop writing for a while, i forget things that have happened, and when i remember, i have to work it into my book somehow. so i think that jk might've just forgotten about the package after a while, and she remembered it after she finished the adventure thingy, and she wrote the part about harry finding the mirror and breaking it so she wouldn't have to change the adventure.

But JkK Rowling doesn't forget these things. You can tell by her writing when you read all of the books straight through.

Lily and James's portraits

Postby Snow_Crystal » Wednesday 7 February 2007 4:28:26pm

You would think there would be portraits of Lily and James somewhere... do you think Harry will ever find them?
