Well in NZ, we have one of the most highest obesity rates in the world...and we only have just over 4million people...50% of adults in NZ are over-weight. and I think it's 37% of children...

I mean, I know I'm not huge, but being a dancer in the modern world is tough...because these days dancers are stereo-typed as being stick thin and they're the ones who CAN dance, but then there's me, who is bigger than everyone else who gets the same marks as them but doesn't get placed just because I'm not stick thin or almost anorexic. It sucks...but that's how it is...and it only recently started happening in the last 3 yearrs...before that I was winning heaps...and not being judged on looks.
I don't have a problem finding clothes that fit, its just hard finding clothes that look good, as all that are out in shops are skimpy, short and tight fitting tops and pants. For example skinny jeans and stripy tops that go horizonaly...
It's also very hard, as I have a very LONG body and really SHORT legs...and I'm about 167cm tall...my body is 70cm long...leaving only 93cm (i think my math is correct) for my legs...and because I'm bigger, I have to chop the bottoms, hem them so they're the correct length...

But I'm not that worried..at least I can actually walk, for some people walking to their cars from the house is a big effort...

Yeah - I'd have to agree with you - stick thin anorexic is not what I'm aiming for, but the world in general seems to think that that is beautiful. I have the opposite problem with pants as you do - I'm all legs so I need nice long pants (they HAVE to cover part of my shoes and touch if not almost touch the floor - it makes me feel comfortable).

Some of the shops in my area have finally come around and come out with clothes that actually cover, and shirts that actually go past the top of my jeans. I don't know who thought up these skimpy outfits and horizontal stripes, but they should be made to wear them for the rest of their lives - see how THEY like it.

Since my last post I've dropped 15 pounds and two sizes, so I'm feeling better, but I'll always be attacked at all sides by smaller-looking people and ads that say I need to be such a size with such a hairstyle, etc, etc.

Too bad about the dancing prejudice, Scarlet. I've always wanted to be a dancer but since a young girl they have told me my body is not in the right proportion. Oh well - maybe I'll take up ballroom dancing as a casual hobby.

I went to this special one-shot Ballroom class....and I loved it!!! Ever since I've been begging my mum to sign me up, its been driving her mad!!! She still ahsn't but I am starting eventually!!!

I do Tap...thats what I excel in, I've quit Jazz since I've finished my exams and I do Contemporary...but people just don't get that being skinny isn't the only way people can look...
