i think its just a natural thing, that some muggles are born with wizarding powers....

it is strange that there are so many muggle born wizards and so few squibs...

Doubt it. There are probably just as many squibs as there are muggles. Probably more squibs actually, percentage wise, as there are more muggles than wizards (and there are, otherwise wizards would be the majority and they wouldn't have to be secret). Squibs are jut afraid to tell people though, because it must be really hard growing up with basically no magical ability if you come from an all-wizarding family.

Well, I'm trying to think up what is so special about those green eyes. J.K.R said in an interview that there was something special about them. And if she knew that green was Slytherin's color, why would she make Lily have green eyes?

Because it's an awesome colour? No, I think you're right there, it does play some importance possibly. But.. I don't think it has anything to do with Slytherin. Harry's got the eyes too, but the Gaunts don't.
Anyway, they're emerald green and Slytherin's aren't emerald, so that just breaks the idea for me.

It seems to me that everyone in the books is always going on about how like his father Harry is. Snape, Sirius and Lupin all at some stage say that Harry is alot like his father in behaviour and looks.

Imo the green eyes are important in that they remind us that Harry is not just his father or even his mother, but his own person, something other characters have forgotten from time to time.

But why green? Of all the brilliant colors in the world, why green?

You know...eyes come just in three colors mainly, brown, blue and green.. And some combinations between... And I do believe green is many times asociated with wiches or wizards... It is a strange colour...

Ah, green eyes actually do remind us that he is like his mother. All his features minus the scar have people thikning about the resemblance.
In fact, that's what makes Harry his own person, and reminds us. It's his scar, not his eyes.

Here's a wierd thought. I know JKR has gone about these eyes for so long but in a way we have already seen why it was important he had her eyes - when Slughorn looked into them and said you have your mother's eyes...blahty blah... here's the horcrux memory.

If Harry hadn't looked like his mother at that point then perhaps he might not have got that memory. Getting that memory was important as it enabled him to learn a bit more about LV and the horcruxes.

Could this be what she was getting at? Or do you think it might be something more? I feel like there should be more but what I don't know.

I think it's something more, because Slughorn didn't give in because of Harry's eyes, he gave in because of being drunk and all that. And J.K.R says the eyes will be a MAJOR plot-point in the seventh book.

Yeah you're probably right - it feels like there should be something more to it than that.

But I do think Slughorn always felt guilty because Harry reminded him of Lily whether that be her eyes or whatever. The drinking probably accelerated that feeling and that was why he caved in.

Yeah. I mean, J.K.R hasn't talked to us much about Lily. And she has been dropping hints about those eyes. All in all, it is at least more plausible than all those Draco/Harry fics.

Lily's eyes...a big mystery for ages. As far as Lily being related to Slytherin is concerned, I have to disappoint you. It's been a much discussed theory that came up two or so years ago, but JKR shot it down in a interview saying that Voldemort is definitely the last remaining descendent of Salazar Slytherin. So, unless you can think of a way that makes Lily related to Slytherin but not Harry, that rules your theory out. The interview is somewhere in the HP lexicon, it should be among JKR's comments on Lily or Voldemort.

However, that doesn't solve the question why Lily's (and Harry's) green eyes are so very important for the story. I, too, wonder if the colour itself is of significance. Slytherin liked green (apparently)...Voldemort likes green (most certainly because Slytherin did...oh, the peer pressure)...snakes are often portrayed as green...The Unforgivable Curses are the only curses with green light...basically, green is evil. Hm...

Maybe Lily isn't fully related to Harry. I don't know, Lily must somehow be connected to Slytherin.
