hepzibah smith and hufflepuffs cup

Postby crystallised_pineapple » Friday 12 August 2005 12:27:16pm

just a little thought that occurred to me, hepzibah smith the witch distantly related to helga hufflepuff could perhaps be related in some way to zacharius smith, who is in hufflepuff himself.

maybe in some way he will actually help harry and co. on their search to find the cup... or maybe i'm grapsing at straws...

Interesting...I was wondering whether there was a connection as well. I'm not sure about Zacharias helping Harry because I didn't think they got on.

Also, if Smith is related, I think I remember reading that the family weren't too happy about her valuable posessions going missing. I think ZS would want to get it back for his family?

yeah i can't really see him helping harry, but perhaps for himself and his families heirloom.

then again what would the cup look like once the horcrux had been removed? the ring was cracked...

I don't know, even if it was damaged afterwards, it'd still be worth a bit, these horcruxes will become antiques of the future!!

wow! way to put that together! that never even occurred to me to link the two of them.
it's hard for me to see zacharias helping harry out; they really seem to not like each other. although, he could have something to do with helping harry to know where to find it or something. or perhaps when harry finds it and removes the horcrux he'll give it back to zacharius?

Or perhaps it is an item in his family's possesion, after all, when LV made the ring into a horcrux, he returned it to where he found it, perhaps he did the same w. the cup... Just a staw to grasp at..

You know, Zacharias is exactly the sort of the character that always ends up as something major.

I can't see him helping Harry or vice versa, but perhaps there will be another way for him to play a bigger part.

Hi Person1, do we know where DD found the ring? I don't remember reading that? Do you know what page? I'd like to read that again as I didn't know DD found it where LV found it. That doesn't seem to work with the locket though does it as he got that off that Hufflepuff woman (can't remember her name now)

Hmm I've got the British version - I lent it to someone but when I get it back I'll have a look!

Thanks!

I somewhat doubt Hepzibah and Zacharias being related. Smith is a common name. But you never know,

the horcruxes

Postby post_baseball89 » Wednesday 17 August 2005 11:28:14pm

we already know some of them

1. the ring- destroyed
2. the cup/goblet- not destroyed
3. the locket- possibly destroyed
4. the diary- destroyed
5. Something of Ravenclaw's
6. something of gryffindor's
7. Harry Himslef?

now there is a debate over this 'cup'. Since Sirius Black is one of the few 'pureblood' wizards left, maybe he had a heirloom from voldemort, like the set of goblets that mundungus was selling in the chapter called 'opals and silver'.

I don't think you exactly inherit ol' Voldy's horcruxes. While I do believe that the locket in the cabinets of Grimmauld Place is the infamous locket and I believe that Sirius is distantly related to Voldemort (through Merope's mom most likely because Merope is the name of a star), I don't think that the goblet Mundungus stole was Hufflepuff's cup or any of the other horcruxes. Like I believe Tanuki said to me earlier about Ginny, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and in this case sometimes a priceless Black family heirloom goblet handcrafted from the finest 14th century Goblin wrought silver is just a priceless Black family heirloom goblet handcrafted from the finest 14th century Goblin wrought silver. I believe the importance of the goblet was to show that Dung had been in Grimmauld Place nicking things.

the cup/goblet

Postby post_baseball89 » Thursday 18 August 2005 12:28:00am

yes, thx for the reply......likewise, thank you for the information concerning merope and the star. i didn't know that before, and it will help my team of highly trained Harry Potter Researchers (me and my sister)
that is true, that it might not be the horcrux. it was just a theory also, see my mundungus theory, under the forum note in the locket: R.A.B.

Interesting...you can learn so much about these books from reading some of these posts, like this one! I had no idea Merope was a name of a star...I do know I've read somewhere that the enemy is usually revealed in chapter 13, and chapter 12 is usually a really important chapter, and Silver and Opals was chapter 12, I think. What did you find most valuable in that chapter? Perhaps learning that Mundungus is stealing will prompt Harry to make Grimmauld Place (not a place he wants to visit!) one of his first stops in book 7...
