2. He'll return somehow stronger than ever, like Gandalf. But, unlike Gandalf, he won't return from death itself. He'll return as part of his own plan and was never really dead. But, in any case, he'll be back and even more potent.

3. He'll return but in a different form, like Obi-wan Kenobi. Maybe as a ghost or just in a headmaster's portrait, but Dumbledore will be present to help Harry somehow, all according to Dumbledore's own plan.

First off let me state that I have not decided whether or not DD is dead or if Snape is good.

In book 2 it was stated that Dumbledore was the Transfiguration Professor, perhaps he is an animungus- and his form is a phoenix..
in an interview I read somewhere it was stated that Harry would be getting a new pet, perhaps a pet phoenix that turns out to be DD (if not then perhaps Fawkes, who has helped HP before) who helps HP find destroy the Horcruxes and Voldy... because come on he is still a kid who needs help and DD would have recognized that.

A lot of times have I read in this forum explanations about why-oh-why did DD had to die. I think it was the same reason Sirius had to die(I really think they are both dead, and won’t be returning in flash and blood). And it is a literary reason. I mean their part in this book is to be mentors, and that’s all. Because after all, all this books are just giving us an image of Harry’s initiation in the wizarding world.(I wonder if “initiation” is the word for what I actually mean :???:) And in this “growing up-thing” mentors role is simply to point out the road. Harry has to walk it. So they had to step aside somehow, to let Harry face alone the hardest trials (friends don’t count as mentors and are aloud to help-considering their own growing up). Though, I feel sorry that Sirius died, he was my favorite character, mostly because he was a white sheep in a family of black’s.

And as far as how he was killed. I really think it was at his own request. He was begging Snape to do it. That is because I’d actually hate to think Snape has gone all bad. After all, he was just a neglected kid. He was just the looser, the geek that all the “cool people” were mocking for fun. I think it was natural for him to develop hatred for them, and wasn’t james and sirius’s gang one of the most popular? So probably he just found a compensation in studying the Dark Arts (they are arts after all): he could plot ways of revenge, invent spels that could wipe out his enemies (e.g. sectumsempra), which probably he just dreamed of using, and never actually did. And then he might have joined LV, but soon realized it was a mistake. Because LV was really insane, and really evil, and he really meant to take his revenge on the world that has given him a cruel life (he probably thinks he didn’t deserve it as he was heir of Salazar S). Realizing his mistake, Snape turned back to the good side, and DD accepted him (also there must have been a serious reason, as many say).
Well that’s what I had to say. Sry for the long post and for my spelling mistakes (english-it’s not my native language) and for the offtopic things, anyway it’s probably going to be my only post. :D I prefer reading;

Welcome SunsetG|rl - a very deep thought! I hope it's not your only post, it's so good to have many different points of view on this forum!

I agree with the mentor relationships. They're definitely there to lead Harry down the right path but Harry has to face his own demons by himself and he's got to grow up to do that. It's sad that he's had to grow up so early but as an effective orphan, it's the only way.

Rules of the Read

Postby Amythest » Wednesday 10 August 2005 9:33:14pm

One of the reasons DD had to go is so that Harry is free of parental supervision...a key to all fantasy adventurers. Think about it, the abnormal use of orphans for disney, the english coutry house for narnia...it's this rule when constructing a "right of passage" that the kid must take the final steps alone...this is even played out in SS (os PS for you Brits--and everyone else, actually) when harry looses his comrades to the other challanges. Also, it forces Harry to think a little more, and kind of changes the entire mentallity of the order relying on DD for some sort of deus ex machina all the time. The readers would want JK to set up a new order of, well, the order to proove that DD wasnt just the glue that held everything together and once he dies the wizarding world would cease to exist. SO, he dies in book six so we are nice and comfy with who is in charge be the end of book seven.

Why, because after everything that we've been led to believe, it's easier to believe Snape is still a good guy. After all, this would mean that we and dumbledore would have been wrong all this time, and that just can't happen

no i do not feel dumbledore is always right he has made mistakes and he admits that i feel that this is what happend because of the argument hagrid overheard, unless you can think of another LOGICAL thing that snape didnt want to do that dumbledore was telling he must then i have nothing else to go on

Follow Draco, Spy on Draco, continue to follow Voldermort, anynumber of things Snape could have been pretending to do. If Snape is playing DD for a fool, there could be any number of tasks he could pretend to not want to do

Dumbledore- was it him?

Postby post_baseball89 » Thursday 18 August 2005 1:12:23am

we all know that Dumbledore has great power- his mind is just as great. maybe that wasn't the real DD. hear me out, before the mob revolts on me. If DD is that important, he could have staged all of this. Lets say DD knew more than he let on. He goes into hiding, leaving behind a lock of hair. Someone who is willing to give their life for DD makes a PolyJuice Potion. They pretend to be DD, and they tell Harry to go with them to get the Horcrux. When he tells HP to get his Inv. Cloak, he takes a swig of the potion. As the hours draw to a close on his transformation, the fake DD take a quick drink of the PJP while young HP isnt' looking. He keeps this charade up until they go into the school. He finishes off all he has, so as to look like DD until death. Then he is found by a memeber of The Order, who also knows this elaborate plan, and they wrap his body in the cloth. If u notice, it never says that anyone sees his face or body in the plain again. Even if they did, it could have been Transfigured by an Auror or a member of The Order. This would allow HP to secretly learn more about the Horcruxes.
