DD's hand/arm

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

DD's hand/arm

Postby cokeboy99 » Wednesday 27 July 2005 2:51:22am

Did it ever explain exactly what happened to his hand/arm? I don't recall reading about it in detail, altho I may have missed it, so could someone enlighten me if I did indeed miss the explanation?

I am pretty sure all it said was that once DD put the ring on, his hand was messed up. And that if Snape hadn't acted so quickly after he put it on and arrived at hogwarts, then he wouldnt be alive.

It never did say what EXACTLY happened, But DD said he thought it has a curse on it

Um... I can't remember, this is probably way off, but I thought it said that once DD put on the ring he couldn't take it off. So maybe he put his hand in a fire so the ring would be destroyed. Ah, I really need to read HBP again.

All we (the readers) know is that HP sees DD with the ring on when they visit Slughorn. DD's arm is messed up at that point. When HP has his first lesson with DD in his office, the ring has been removed and is on a table by the door, and DD's arm is still messed up. On Hp's second lesson, the ring is gone. Somewhere in the book DD gives some sort of credit to Snape having to do with the ring, but I don't remember specifics. It has been assumed that the only way to remove the horcrux was to wear the ring, and that it eventually kills the wearer (so it appears with the "dead" arm) and Snape found a way to remove the ring and stop the curse and essentially, the horcrux was broken. But none of that was actually written, so it is a theory.

He is talking about the duel at the end of OotP. Dumbledore clearly states that he found the ring in the old Gaunt house.

i think that its black and dead looking due to the curses put on the gaunt ring maybe the person to attempt to destroy or wear it is horribly cursed because dd said he would have died from a curse put on it if snape hadnt saved him.

I'm pretty sure it was Marvolo's ring, and Voldemort probally put a killing curse on it, but being Dumbledore, he just injured his hand.

No I think in it when they are talking about the horcruxes DD said that Harry had destroyed one which was the book and I think he said he destroyed one which was the ring. But I'm not sure..

Didn't you ever notice how much emphasis J.K.R puts on hands and fingers? She seems to think of the hands and fingers as important and vulnarable.
