It did it's job.
It gave us romance.
It gave us action.
It gave us (finally) some better magic! I've been waiting for ages for Harry and the others to learn Non-verbal spells!
It gave us mystery (for those that didn't guess.)
And it gave us a small idea of what Harry is going to have to do, and the task that awaits him.

Part ofthe point was just how SHORT it supposedly was. I personally don't believe it's over in the slightest. Ginny's too stubborn to let go now

I enjoyed the book, much to short though! I have more questions then answers now :???: POA is still my favorite, and the only one that made me cry (Harry's Patronus when he whispered "Prongs?") But all in all, I thought the book lived up to the hype.

Harry and Ginny didn't have much time together as a couple. I too would have liked to see more of the dynamic btwn them together. There was a lot of Harry considering his feelings for Ginny, but I wish there had been more actual relationship.

HBP has been my fav so far. Harry stopped whining and people believed him, mostly. And, i cried a great deal at the end, just like w/ Sirius's death. It was great.

I agree that it being short was the point as it was flourishing, but what i ment was I wanted to know more about them spending time together as it would've given us more insight into both of them as individual characters

it would've been a lot better if the book was longer.... i was happy to see harry act on his feelings towards ginny but i just dont think it was enough done about it!

A lengthy and necessary build up to the last book. Rowling is getting everything straightened out before the finale.

i don't think HBP was too short, i thought it was just the right length. because, what was so good about HBP was that it was constantly moving forwards, even if there wasn't a big fight, it had it's own momentum that was constant throughout.

however i thought both GoF and OotP lacked this because they were too long. they stagnated and dragged and they weren't as good. it made them seem not badly written, but not as succintly written. this stagnant quality made GoF and OotP a bit hard to read cos you felt like you were reading filler the whole time until you got to a short burst of action, then you'd read more filler stuff, until more action... and so on.

so no i don't think HBP was too short, it was just a perfect length and it was much better written than the previous 2. in my opinion the best ones in the series have been PoA and HBP cos they've been succinct in the writing style. also JK said that those were the ones that she enjoyed writing the most and felt most relaxed writing. so it fits in with my theory, that in GoF and OotP she had a tough spot of writer's block and you can see that in the books.

i agree those ones were the best, i only found that OotP stagnated a bit, but found the start the hardest bit to get through. I just missed the little things, but i'm just winging for the sake of it! :)
