Let's talk about... Harry

I'd like to hear what everyone thought about Harry's transformation in book 6.

Personally, my least favorite Harry was in book 5 what with all the moodiness and pent-up anger. I think he has matured more in this book, even in the beginning. He's come a long way. And, now, with his reaction to DD's death, I'm excited to see what he'll be like next book. I think he'll be much more determined and action-oriented. He's already got somewhat of a plan.

What do you guys think?

Has Harry changed? For the better? Worse? Etc?

Book 4 is my favourite Harry. Before he goes nuts.
He drove me mental in Book 5.

Book 6 harry is my favorite, because, aside from the voldemort stuff, he's the most comparible to me in this book. I devoloped a crush on my best friends sister, i also had to stand around well a group of my friends fall apart(though everyone is now getting along again). He has alot of pressure on him, like me.

In book 1 harry was just coming to terms with the fact that he was a wizard and what had actually happened to his parents.
by book 2 he was trying to come to terms with whether he had been put into the right house or not, and realising more about his connection with voldermort
book 3 saw him learning a lot more about his parents, and his heritage and his link with sirius (making him feel a lot more like he had a family)
book 4 made him realise how much he had to grow up quickly with the death of cedric and his introduction to voldermort again
book 5 he seemed to be a stroppy teenager (but with good reason). he went through a stage of feeling hard-done-by, and wondering why everything had happened to him and subsequently dealing with the loss of sirius
book 6 showed us the more mature harry learning to deal with his destiny and what he;s going to have to do. i think he showed real maturity when he listened to dumbledore when he said that no matter what harry had to keep making him drink that potion, and realised that no matter how hard it was to see him in pain it was for the greater good. book 6 by far showed my favourite harry

it wasn't until book 6 that i even liked harry!! never have a read a whole series of books hating/disliking the main character ! but that changed in HBP he really redeemed himself and proved himself.

before HBP it was more the peripheral characters like sirius and DD and lupin that kept me reading, not out of any great concern for harry.

but i can see where you're coming from, he gives the readers a reason to be interested in him and respect him in book 6

i know, t'was a conundrum. but my hatred reached it's peak in OotP. never have i despised harry so much as i did in that book. i hated that book. i have difficulty reading it cos i can't bear harry in it.

yeh i have to read book 5 in bits, if i read it all together then i get annoyed with the harry, umbridge, and the general situaiton throughout the book

I hated Umbridge more than i ever hated snape or voldemort.

Sorry about the poll guys, I was sure that I had Book 6 as a choice, but i guess it just didn't show, maybe a limit on how many choices?

Anyway, yes, Harry was soooooooo annoying in book 5. I just wanted him to get over himself.

And, one of the other things was that no one believed him in OoP. The general population of the wizarding world believed he was an attention-seeking lunatic. That was frustrating, too.

Umbridge was absolutely detestable. She did bring a lot of the moodiness out of Harry.

Now that there is acceptance of LV's return, Harry has gotten past his moody self and matured. I really saw a growth spurt at the end when DD died. Harry is focused on his task and nothing else.

As much as I love HP through all the books (though I could've done without quite so much adolescent moodiness in OotP) I think my favorite Harry is book 1...

In book 1 everything was new, exciting and hopeful. He was "innocent" per se...he didn't know what journey lay ahead (grammar???), he was thrilled to be in a place he finally fit in, it was all so exciting for him. He saw it all through the eyes of a child in a way. I loved that...seeing him as a kid...instead of a kid with a heavy burden to bear like in the rest of the books.

Mine is Harry number six. I was actually kind of shocked at his transformation. Would the old Harry have roughed up Mundingus? Plus he was sneaking around everywhere, being more conversational, all kinds of different stuff. Thought he still had a little of his old arrogance about the whole Malfoy situation, not even looking at other explainations even when it was clear he was wrong (like how it was Malfoy who gave Katie the necklace directly),but it turns out he was right in the end, so I'll let it slide.

As there was no option, I couldn't vote for number 6, but it was by far the best Harry in a while. He definitely matured, but was able to control his emotions right when he needed to.

My favourite Harry was book 6 he was way more mature and more likeable...

I didn't like Harry in the other books, he wasn't one of my favourites but now after the 6th book he is in the top 5!!!

Yeah, he's nowhere near being my favourite character. He takes a seat behind Ginny, Mrs McGonagall, the Weasley Twins, Dumbledore, Lupin and (happy) Tonks.
