I presume Snape's house doesn't look lived in because he lives at Hogwarts most of the time....
I personally liked re-reading the love aspects in the book, adn it's strange that people say its a lot, whereas it seems to me of 600ish pages, not that many were about this - when I'd have said that was one of the biggest things in Harry's life to him.

Definitely my favourite of the whole series so far. It was fast paced and unrelenting from beginning to end. There is just so much to think about. Rowling is completely ruthless in portraying the reality of the challenges Harry faces and the numerous leaps forward in what we know about characters, especially Voldy and Snape. It's all so much to take in at once. Seems like Dumbledore knew that Harry was going to leave the Dursley's after this year and prepared the Dursley's for it. Harry's not a kid anymore and in my opinion he's blossomed into a man in this book.

I dont think Sirius had a completely pointless death, it matured Harry ALOT, just look at how he was acting during Dumbledores funeral, no emotional outburst like he did with Sirius, no seeking of loopholes, nothing, he was just able to accept it. Had he never lost Sirius i feel it's safe to say that he would have acted in a much different manner.

after seeing how much harry matured and had become a man in HBP, i am also inclined to think that maybe sirius' death wasn't quite so pointless. but.... i don't care, it still hurts!! someone else could've died to you know help him mature...or something like that...

Maybe pointless isn't the correct word. Maybe cruel would be a better one.

As for JKR saying that there are 7 for every year Harry is at Hogwarts. He is supposed to be there for 7 years but that doesn't mean that he needs to stay there for 7 years. But i agree that he can't possibly be expected to fight Voldermort whilst he is still at the school. It's hard enough for him to sneak around the school at night to find stuff in the school. How can he be expected to find the Horcruxes whilst still at Hogwarts.

I think in the 7th book we are going to see a very very different Harry, Ron and Hermoine. And i think that it was hinted upon in this book. For a start Hermione has not really been able to find out anything about R.A.B. and since when has that ever happened. And she couldn't find anything out about Horcuxes.

But hogwarts does offer him a safe base of operations so there will still be a big connection to the school, i think

book 6

Postby sweetassugar555 » Monday 18 July 2005 6:21:53pm

i didnt think this book was that bad, not too much romance like everyone keeps saying...book 5 was horrible, such a depressing book! i was so mad when sirius died! i dont get why everyone keeps saying that harry is going to be out on his own in the next book, isnt ron and hermione going with him? it was obvious that snape was on the bad side afterall he did make the unbreakable vow personally DDs death didnt really affect me as much as Sirius'....one thing that really did bug me about the romance though is the fact that ron and hermione wont get there act together and just date already! i mean come on....i read in another forum about a guy saying that he thought that the locket may have been taken by Sirius' brother reglus because of RAB and black being his last name and his dads first name was something that started with an A and the fact of the mysterious unopenable locket that they found so im thinking that the guy might just be right about it being him before he died.....one thing that i am sick of is that no one ever believes harry! and he nearly always ends up being right.....i did feel that harry did grow up alot from the last book. this book i was cheering him on and in the last book i was ready to smack him and tell him to shut up.....and everyone keeps saying that it was so obvious of who the half blood prince was, i had no idea the entire book until what happened in the bathroom with malfoy, speaking of malfoy uhh wow evil little boy isnt he i wished that he would fail so that snape would have died instead of DD.....i too wished that the song of the phoenix was going to bring back DD but no and i dont think that he will be returning either...i was mad that they left and came back to a trap all for nothing, i mean the locket wasnt even the real one that they needed!...iv got a question what were you talking about "the spinners end was snapes house"? i cant wait for the next book and no that harry is not going back to hogwarts i hope that there will be more than 7 books!

a kindred spirit!!! i agree with pretty much everything you said sweetas sugar!! i wrote for ages saying book 5 was horrible and no-one would agree with me. but fianlly i'm not alone!! yeah i was the same, i too was cheering harry on in this book whereas in OotP, it really wanted to beat the snot out of him. sirius' death really got to me. he was my absolute fave character.

and finally another person saying that snape is bad!!! ahhhh everyone is so determined to see the loopholes and good in snape. but he's killed DD right in front of everyone. how much proof does anyone else need? no buts about it, snape has gone over to the dark side once and for all.

one thing that i am sick of is that no one ever believes harry! and he nearly always ends up being right

exactly!!! why does everyone treat him like he's crazy? the whole way through HBP he told evryone malfoy was a DE and hermione and ron treated him like he was crazy!?! what was crazy about saying that the boy who's father was a DE and hated muggle borns had finally become a DE?he's been right about snape all along. why does no-one else see that even though he just killed DD?

well i assumed spinners end was snapes house cos that's where he was when narcissa and bella visited him.

everyone keeps saying that it was so obvious of who the half blood prince was, i had no idea the entire book until what happened in the bathroom with malfoy

i know!!!! i'm beginning to think i'm stupid. everyone says they knew, but that wasn't predictable!!! i began to suspect in the bathroom with malfoy, but i was shocked when he came out with it in the end. i don't think that was predictable. but everyone else 'knew' apparantly.... :???:

I totally didn't know Snape was the Half-Blood Prince, I guess I'm really dumb because although I thought it would be someone quite obvious, I never gave it much thought whilst reading, prefering to enjoy the anonymity of the book :S

Anyway, I think I have a kind of love/hate relationship with the sixth book because although I think it is the best so far, mostly because it is darker, Harry and Dumbledore got a little closer, we got to see more of JK's world and so much was revealed... I also hate it the most because so much was left outstanding. The wait for book 7 is going to be the worst yet! : (

I felt this was the best book so far. Firstly, Order of the Phoenix was completely full of Harry being moody and second-guessing his friends. I remember being quite sick of it all. But, of course I do love the series so I conitinued to read.
HPB was not predictable. Maybe some predicted that it would be Dumbledore who died and all I have to say to you Excuse me if I'm a moron. It was clear that someone close to Harry and the series was going to die. Rowling said it herself. But, even when DD and Harry were going to the tower at the end, I didn't know. The Dark Mark was there, someone could have already been killed. And Draco said someone on Dumbledore's side was dead when he was speaking to him. We didn't out until later that that person was Bill and he was only unconcious.
Volemort's history was interesting even though it was somewhat expected, only because of the type of person LV is. Of course that's what his history would be like. But, it was still intersting. The whole horcruxes thing was fascinating, too. And, no, there was not too much love. That's how teenagers are.
I loved HBP. It was constantly moving forward, fascinating. I was crying at the end, too. And, these were exactly the circumstances needed for Harry to mature and take responsibility for his destiny. Now that Dumbledore is gone, Harry knows that he can only depend on himself, he can only count on him being the one to fight LV. He knows it is up to him. Which might make up for any deficiency in his magical skill. He certainly seemed able when fighting the Death Eaters to get to Snape and Malfoy. He was determined.
Though I do think he will be spending some time at Hogwarts in the next book whether it is for advice or resources.
