Hmmmm...interesting title for a thread. You know, I'm going to change my name to "Ginny Potter" at BaO because really, when I came on here, I could have gone either way...there were things I really liked about Ginny and Harry (and some of that came from the two actors in the second movie), but I also liked Hermione and Harry, though, strangely, it was more that I liked their scenes together and how strong their friendship is. I never really felt a romantic connection between them...I just liked them working together side by side, like they did in book 3, if that makes any sense! That being said, however...
I'm not sure how fond I am of the gloating that seems to be taking place, but perhaps I'm taking it out of context. Is it necessary, if it is gloating? It wasn't exactly a contest. That Harry chose Ginny doesn't bother me so much as it seems like people are kinda rubbing it in other's faces, but like I said, I'm probably taking it all too literally. If I am, you have my apologies...it's just how it sounded to me on first reading...
There are many things I really like about Harry/Ginny...I like that she's come into her own, though I did think it was kinda sweet when she had a crush on Harry. I like that, although it isn't a pleasant thing, that they share being tainted by Voldemort, so they understand that about each other. And yes, it's been said before, but the red hair and him looking like his dad...it is reminiscent of James/Lily. However, there were times, in the 6th book, where I felt like the "romance" aspect got to be a little much. Maybe that's me...I just felt like, after a while, ok, I get it, they're 16, and they're hormonal, and what not.
I did like, at the end, that Ginny went back and talked about how she had always liked him and hadn't really gotten over him...it made me smile.
They're were times I felt like Ginny was a little strident for my taste, bu then again, Ron has had a history of really pushing girls' buttons.
I hope I haven't offended anyone by what I have said. I do really like Ginny and Harry together, on further reflection and remembering that I liked them before. Book 5 sent me into a real tailspin...it seemed nothing was like it was in the first four books! It's as though, if Ginny and Harry had gotten together in book 5, it would have seemed a little smoother to me, but I suppose the point about being herself and on her own was really great for her...I just got so used to NOT thinking of her and Harry together! The jury's still out on Ron/Hermione for me...would it last?
