Just wanted to make sure that noone lost their loved ones in this horrible disaster!!! T_T I can't believe the death toll keeps rising higher and higher. This is really unfortunate, and very hard to believe that a natural disaster of this magnitude can happen so quickly and claim so many lives. Very very scary.

It is really sad. Like you've mentioned, Mint, I was talking to my mother about it earlier today and we were discussing how the number of deaths keep increasing almost every news bulletin. When I've thought of earthquakes before it's mainly been thinking of shudders on land but this shows that they can be absolutely hugely disastrous even hundreds of miles out to sea too. From what I've heard on the news this was a scale 9 on the richter scale, and with as much power as all the earthquakes in the last 4 years together. It's so sad that so many have been killed, and even the lives of a huge number of survivors have probably been awfully affected by the destruction.

more than 60000 people are confirmed dead and countless more missing and homeless.
most of the islands like Maldives, Phuket, Langkawi are popular tourist spots in the South and South east Asia.
The news broadcast has been about this news for the past few days. It is a sad news and it had to happened just before the new year.

a 9.0 magnitude.. first time I have ever seen something that powerful before. I just can't believe they couldn't even make it to 2005 year. It still surprises me and shocks at the same time that a huge number of lives all lost in a single moment.
I'm relieve it didn't hit my home country which would be very devasted since it's one of the poorest country in the world.

When the number of deaths was reported to be over 10,000, I thought it was a huge figure already. But now it is really growing with every new report!

The worst thing for me was that I was on holiday and I thought some of my friends from work were in the Maldives....I was constantly worried about them but I know now they're OK...they weren't there after all.
My sympathies to Richard Attenborough and the other families who have lost someone in this tragic event.
