no. no.no. no. harry was sooooo stupid and annoying in OotP, it came off and so contrived. his whole angsty teen stage. so bad. i've gone through bad times too (obviously not had parents killed by evil extrodonaire, been hunted by madmen or anything like that...) and i don't mean someone pushed into me in the lunch line i mean alot of personal stuff that i'm sure will cost me alot in later life in thearapy bills. so yes i am familiar with confusion over who you are, your purpose, what is the meaning of a life in a world that is so cr*p etc. it's not all roses and sunshine dearies. i' sure you've all had you own bad experiences (i'm not trying to bring out the violins or anything i swear!) but it is weak person who turns everything onto other people, and that is what harry did the whole way through OotP. to me the angtsy angry oh life has done me wrong thing came off as fake, contrived and shallow with little real depth, i didn't feel any sympathy for him, i just wanted to reach into the book and slap him round the face. i know everyone will view it differently cos that if after all the wonder of books and literature, different interpretations and all, but to me it was painful to read and not in a good way. also remember i still think he can redeem himself, still 2 books to go, this was just his low point i think.

lol!!! yeah... but it looks so mysterious!!

Hagger - I know he is suppose to be all grown, but ...couldn't they make him more pleasant looking? ^^' I like my main character to look attractive

thestral, yeah you right! they all have cauldron type...things before them so potions just may play a huge role in this book :D
oh and I wanted to slap him too in last book XD

Scellanis - go to amazon.com. They have english edition and then go to english amazon.com to get other covers. Don't remember the site name, but I'm sure if you put "english harry potter" its gonna give you the link. I think it was amazon.uk.com? <.<

I'm using internet explorer...

Never thought of amazon...last time I checked amazon.co.uk they still had the picture they have been using for it for months....

Oooo wow!!! Looks like the pensieve is back from the American cover (either that or Dumbledore really does double up as Gandalf in his spare time and has stolen Galadriel's mirror)...and the British cover just looks so exciting...I can't wait to get the book!

Hey c'mon, everyone is allowed one rant; and when they're actually out to get you, that rant can get real long. Let him have his year; his feelings were hurt and there was no one he could really securely turn to for comfort. I'm sure he'll feel better by the next book, or significantly worse. Yes, he acted dumb, but I don't think I know a person who would act any differently in his situation, because remember folks, he doesn't get a reprieve from this kind of torment, he has to deal with it all the time, and it can really get to you over this time

Also, if you feel pain reading it, then Rowling achieved what she wanted to in this book

Alright, internet explorer has some settings which may make certain websites not show their images. What you may want to do is acquire an alternative browser (I prefer mozilla firefox) and try again

why yes he does, didn't you read latest Daily Prophet? :eekie: Lols XD

Tanuki - you are right, everybody is allowed to rant. ^-^ Thats why I'm ranting about Harry's behavior in last book :x  But its ok, I mean we don't necessarely have to like and agree with the main character throughout the whole book. :D

True, but don't judge him so quickly, he's had a rought life. If he were still sunny after all that I'd be very worried

thank you mint!! thought i was the only one!! but i know everyone is allowed one rant, and you need to rant and go crazy before you start to recover it's part of the process and i really wouldn't have wanted to harry to be sunny, shiny happy people but my problem was the way it was written and characterised i think that this was just a low point of the books where it was necessary to begin and introduce alot of new things and along the way i just think that in regard to harry's angsty-ness JKR got it wrong, i mean she is human and the book does have flaws and i think one of them is the way that whole angst thing was written didn't feel real to me, just contrived. i like and agree with the concept of harry angry stage in OotP but just not the way it was written and i do think that harry will redeem himself in the next 2 books, and liek you said mint you don't have to like and agree with a character all the time, reflects reality i suppose you don't like people all the time. once again concept good, writing... questionable. and tanuki, i mean bad pain reading the book, not empathy pain. i don't think my pain was the kind JKR intended

I think I actually agree with Tanuki although I do think he pushes it a bit to far sometimes but that is probably attention seeking really...I just hope he has calmed down for book 6 because I don't think I can cope with more of that behaviour....

p.s. GO NEVILLE!! I hope he is as good in the new book....

It's not so much attention seeking, because attention is kind of the last thing Harry wants. Partially, he wants everyoe to believe him. People have an unpleasant habit of assuming he wants to be famous, when all he wants is a normal life with his friends and a decent family. Couple that with a frustration stemming from a feeling of having no control of his life (and with so many secrets being kept around him and people continually trying to protect him by excluding him, these feelings are not unfounded) and you get one very upset teenager

I'm perplexed. This thread is about the covers but there seems to be little discussion on what the covers actually mean. The American version has DD and Harry looking excitedly at something. What is that? Is it some type of cauldron or a pensieve? I can't remember if the pensieve is made of glass or not. My first thought was perhaps they had pulled some of Harry's repressed memories from infancy out to examine for more clarification on what happened when and prior to, his parents were betrayed and killed.

The UK cover is very exciting with the "ring of fire," and it makes me think even more that DD will not be dying in this book but will make his exit in book 7.

The adult version with the spell book, I need more time to think about.

Oh I hope that happens, that'd be so interesting! That really could be it. As for the British cover, it could be a spell of some sort, or, Hey! I know, it could be Harry and Dumbledore being pulled into the pensieve. We don't know what it actually looks like for someone to enter ones thoughts, except from Harry's point of view. This could be from everybody else in the room's point of view. It's consistent with the American theory, though I don't think the fire fits, so it's probably not right. I'm still confused over the little triangle of light I can see on Harry's forehead, surrounding his scar. If you put it as your screen wallpaper, you might be abl to see it clearer.

Sorry for double-posting, but my previous message looked so odd that I had this really strong desire to just tell you that the bottom writing, in the "quote box" is what I said, and the stuff that I meant to put in the quote box, is something that Just Mum said last post.

It's Galadriel's mirror!! No but seriously, my guess is the penseive...although as I remember it was in a dish in a cupboard not a stone basin like a birdbath....Snape's was also portable wasn't it....
